Amen to that, also 16 years next April.

 

1st wife was from a wealthy family (non Thai) and unbeknown to me at the time of our courtship how wealthy her parents were, they threw her out when they knew she was dating a nobody, i.e. she was given the alternative, but decided to land on my doorstep, crying etc etc, sucked me right in, didn't she......that was her freedom ticket away from her parents.

 

The relationship reminded me of that Elvis Presley song, "caught in a trap" that was the only truth about the relationship, she was a spoilt brat and full of jealousy, however I hung in there until she left me as we had a kid together, she did me the biggest favour when she left, albeit she took the kid who was just under 2 years old at the time. I ended up getting shared care via the courts, so it was a 50/50 hellish split on her part.

 

Fast forward two decades later plus some later, my daughters grandparents from her mother's side who didn't want me as their son-in-law recently passed due to old age, and my daughter is going to inherit tens of millions of dollars when her mum passes eventually, so my personal sacrifice of staying with her mother for those years was worth it in the end, knowing my daughter is set for life, and that has got to be a bitter pill to swallow for my ex who never remarried, as my daughter not only carries my surname, but will collect it all in the end....LOL. Just to clarify, no bitterness, just joy, absolute joy for my daughter.

 

The above said if I didn't go through that hell with my ex, I would have never met my beautiful and placid Thai wife of 15 years in a bar of all places in Patong back in 2006. 

 

There is an immense difference in culture, feelings and she is far from spoilt, not to mention 16 years younger than my ex, and much much much prettier, so I can say that I am a velly velly happy guy knowing that she came with me short time, but stayed, "long time".

Saw her sitting outside a restaurant ( on a break ) in Ayutthaya when 3 colleagues and myself were working there.

The others wanted to go for Korean Barbecue but i had a sudden urge for Thai food  !!

Naughty massage & bar. My usual was busy with a customer, so she asked me if I wanna try another lady. 10 years ago and I still try another lady, once in a while

The seminar ended, and I had an extra ten days before I had to come home.  Walking back to my hotel in Sukumvit on the first free day, my eyes froze on the most beautiful girl I had ever seen as she approached me with her laughing girl friends and beckoned me to join them at Hillary 2. I couldn’t take my eyes off her for the next nine days. That was in 2014.  I intentionally lost her phone number so I couldn’t see or talk to her after I returned home, in order to preserve my marriage.  Six months later my wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Back in Bangkok six months after that, I allowed myself to look for her again.  She didn’t remember my name or voice when the woman from Hillary’s called her number, but when she arrived at the bar she ran into my arms and cried.  I am overjoyed that I have been able to care for, and be with, her and my wife, here or there, virtually and in the flesh,  every day since.

First words were the normal text messages, I as making sure she wasn't looking for a customer, and she was making sure I wasn't asking how much, color of underwear, or sending dickpics.

Um.....that was my point.

We met in the USA where she was a graduate student.  I was taking a senior level statistics course and she was the grad assistant for the course.  Married for 23 years until she passed away in 2005.  

Her office, after a month, she plucked up the courage to ask me out.

 

 

 

 

Rather boring actually compared to some of the colorful tales on here

 

We got together back in 2004 when we were both working at the same company in Singapore, yes it was the definitive tawdry office romance, furtive groping in the stairwell lol

 

But we made it work and although we didn't get officially married until many years later, ostensibly to get her a green card for the US, we seem to have stuck together, produced a great adult son and I think have a great late late middle aged life together

She looked up at me from around my chest height, and with pleading eyes said " I come with you ? "

I was working in army recruitment and she was in London for a conference with a university . I had been to Thailand so came out with what I thought was a decent chat up line (she thought I was a <deleted>)  . 16 years later and one son we are doing quite well .

I'm amazed at the guys I meet here in Isarn who put their wives on a pedestal. They seem to think that they are so lucky to have netted the woman, whereas in most cases, it's the woman who has landed a big one. 

I remind my wife every now and again how lucky she is

I have a tendency to be a lot less romantic than I was on that occasion, she got me on a good day.

I met my wife through a friend and we wrote letters for a year or more (the ones with stamps and envelopes).

When I met her, her first words were "get a haircut".

I like a lady that speaks her mind.

She hopped up on the bar and put a sheet of kindy paper on the bar, then removed her knickers and inserted a felt tipped pen, and squatted down and wrote on the paper "Hello Mike from...". She then leant forward and said "How do you spell Australia?"

 

I never asked anyone from that day on where they met their wife..
