Having been involved in sales and marketing for most of my life, including being involved in the tourism and entertainment industry, my opinion is that Thailand will probably "dodge a bullet." 

 

This is mostly due to the little being done by alternative East Asian destinations to stick the knife into Thailand and own a portion of the market.  Most marketers will tell you down times are 

 

This means that for all the governments ill considered, illogical, spur of the moment decisions and hidden agendas, they will probably not fair too badly.

 

If you did an analysis of all alternative destinations they can still not measure up to the default attributes or "unique selling points" of Thailand, as an affordable tropical paradise.

 

Singapore is trying but has limited natural resources and is expensive by comparison to the rest of Asia. The other Asean countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia (including Bali), are just not taking the ball up! Lack of infrastructure, difficulty of entry, lack of planning, and so on are making things difficult. 

 

Brunei has no alcohol or LBGT as a general concept. Myanmar has installed sights on all its pistols so it can continue to accurately shoot it self in the foot, and Southern China especially (Hainan) seems to have no plans to take a large chunk of the Chinese tourists who will return eventually to Thailand.

 

Relatively inexpensive, exotic and beautiful, Thailand, despite the authorities actions, will quickly (in relative terms) return to be the "Jewel in the Crown" for holiday makers in Asia, with or without booze and hookers.

 

Will the powers that be assist or accelerate that situation, I imagine in the main, only if it is in their own personal interests, however I am sure they will take the credit if my prediction is correct.

No, this tool doesn't want to admit it IS necessary to open! He's not preventing anything because it is all happening anyways, just not in establishments where business owners as well as wholesalers and delivery people and service workers can make a living. Sinking in yet? He has nothing to praise himself for as his administration made an absolute mess of this wave.

Praise must go to the Cambodian Government which took a positive forward decision to allow alcohol to be served at restaurants and beer gardens without time restrictions from the 1st November 2021. From the 30th November 2021 beer bars, pubs, nightclubs, karaoke and KTV lounges will be allowed to sell alcohol, also with no time restrictions. 

 

"Authorities are set to lift restrictions on some “high-risk” businesses after November 30, including nightlife entertainment venues that rely heavily on alcohol sales such as KTV/karaoke parlours, nightclubs and bars, which have all been closed longer than other establishments"

Another self-important statement from someone who has no clue how people feel, how they are surviving, or what they are thinking. AND to think he can second guess what he thinks the tourists are thinking is just beyond belief. Go out and enjoy Loy Krathong in your thousands said he and no worries about Covid, its taking the day off...clown.

 

Perhaps take a leaf out of Austria's book. Open places to double vaccinated who are being penalised and lockdown those that refuse to get them. Oh wait a minute, still not enough to go round and was his fault right from day one. Will be interested to see how this pans out in UK and Europe with the Vaccinated V Un-vaccinated and who and where the different groups will be allowed to go... Personally and possibly selfishly, after having 2 + booster, I feel  I am be restricted and penalised  simply because the major amount of infections come from those not vaccinated which is bourn out by all statistics keeping this pandemic alive and well for the foreseeable future with higher risks of more mutated strains and variants putting everyone at risk all over again... I know a lot of you out there will disagree but wonder how many of those haven't had the vaccinations.....

Walked yesterday to soi 4.

The 2 or 3 bars on the left site were well visited. Mostly farang and I didn't see a single one having something to eat.

They were sitting and having drinks out of bottles. Not using any mugs.

What time did you call the authorities to grass them off?
