So loud and distorted i don't have a clue.

I guess it drowns out the dogs that drown out the funerals that drown out the one week a monk party that drown out the wedding party that drowns out the karaoke party that drowns out the bloke that opens a workshop in his garden that drowns out the mobile truck speakers that never sell anything cos they drive so fast past your gate in the land of noise.

Time to move, ya reckon?

Hi,

Mostly luk thung (เพลงลูกทุ่ง) hits, singers like Look Isaan,  Monkaen Kaenkoon, or older like Pornsak Songsaeng.

I'm lucky because we live between two villages. So, two different playlists at the same time every morning 555!

We never get anything played, it's a disgrace! Pornsak died last month by the way. Always makes me smile when the people who claim to have 'fallen in love with the culture' appear to hate the music, the Tv, the comedians and the noise!

OP where is your village? almost certainly not actual music from Laos, if from Surin or parts of Buri Ram they might be playing kantrum where the saaw is prominent in place of the khaen. Most likely they are playing well known morlam and luktung popular now. You could listen to fm95 and better fm 90- luktung rak Thai to try and spot the ones you like. Tik Tok throws up a lot of popular ones, Thais like to mime to songs.

Thank you for the links.

The songs coming from my village loudspeaker sound like they are from an older era than these songs.

The second link from the bottom is probably the closest, though the songs in my village have a slower pace. Maybe a bit more sad, too.

I'm not in Surin or Buriram.

My wife occasionally listens to some sort of fm95 station, but those songs sound nothing like the ones from the village loudspeaker.  Maybe I will try to find something around fm90.

Don't live in Isaan, but used to live in center of Bangkok, where the motorcycle gang across the street played music at full blast around the clock for every holiday. The bad thing is that it was the same 1-2 hour playlist continuously repeating, so after 5th repetition it started to get boring. Although I'd admit, some of it was rather good. Just not really something you appreciated at 4 in the morning when you had to get up for work a few hours later.

The only music we get is a little homemade ditty played before the daily announcements. We live a fair way from the nearest speaker, and the audio quality is woeful, so the only words I can pick out is the name of our town. Apparently it’s all about loving your town and helping neighbors ????

The tune was familiar though, after a few months I realized it was “Rudolph the red nosed reindeer “!

Are any of you veteran Isaan residents able to share the song titles that your village loudspeakers broadcast each morning?

The Isaan village where I lived in Western Khon Kaen Province, every morning at 8am played the National Anthem and did anyone take notice - not what I saw!!!
