Daily News reported from Chonburi where rag and bone men and other traders are adapting their vehicles.

Pick-ups and motorcycles with sidecars have been adapted to carry tall loads.

This is because fuel prices have gone through the roof.

Thaweechai, an old goods trader for 20 years said penury and the price of fuel needed solid action.

The media said they were driving carefully.

No mention was made of the police.

Health insurance plans that meet the long stay visa requirements

From what I have seen this has always been the case and "allowed" because the Police do nothing to enforce the law.

Exactly this.....    the police do nothing other than ‘enable’ these overloaded trucks to continue - when they are involved in an accident... Brake failure !...

‘Just google’ overloaded trucks and images from Thailand along with many poorer more desperate far poorer countries comes up.

With utterly apathetic approach the Police take towards enforcement Thailand bands itself in the same bracket as some of these underdeveloped low income countries.

There were 2 brothers who were rag and bone men in the day,

they took the horse and cart off for a day at the seaside , went

on the rides , had ice cream  then decided to go for a wade in

the sea , took off their shoes and socks , Jacky says to Arthur

how come your feet are more dirty than mine....are you stupid,

I am older than you ,ain't I .

And the trucks use so much fuel because they are loaded so high... wind resistance !

True, probably using more fuel belching out black smoke not being serviced, totally abused from lack of maitenance and totally overloaded. Then they wo der why they have brake issues.

The whole Transport/enforcement etc situation in this country is a farce !

Obviously the Thai police have never heard of or consider in any way "Unstable, Overloading or Insecure Loads" and the government have the cheek to say they want high class tourists with endangerment of the roads like this meaning nothing as far as anyone in authority is concerned.

Steptoe & Son... there's another name... if you go back as far as I do?

I regularly saw a pick-up in Chaingmai loaded with so much rice in the bed of the truck that it required two bags of rice on the hood/bonnet in order to keep the front wheels on the road.

Drove through several police checkpoints never a problem, but anyone with no crash helmet was another story.
