Today (15 Dec. 64) General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense visited the area to discuss government agencies in the southern border provinces.  Yala City, Yala, by the Prime Minister, said at one point that the government sees the problem of poverty, how to reduce his expenses so that he doesn't have to buy vegetables to buy chickens today if every household raises two chickens.  Don't just kill it, let it grow, give it eggs first. Slowly taking care of yourself like this. The cost will be less if we can't buy everything at all. It also sees the problem of household debt and the problem of informal debt which today  The problem has happened to people all over the country and still can't be solved. As long as people with low incomes have many children and children want to have a better life, there must be a loan. So we have to think about how to do it.  People haven’t enough income.

Ye gods and little fishes!

The tactics précis at the military academy must be an amazing publication!

I can see a problem though, what to do about poverty amongst egg producers and vegetable traders given the dramatic fall in sales which will ensue!

We have 15 layer hens and a rooster along with a pair of gai baan which have 7 chicks (along with geese, guinea fowl, koi, 2 dogs and a cat).

More eggs than we can shake a stick at.

Although when you add up the cost of feed (they free-range on 1.5 rai but get layer supplement and rice too) the eggs are probably no cheeper (sic) than store bought ones. They are however delicious!

Even in apartments or condos?

You'd have a problem with the <deleted>. For every egg they give you, they give three times the amount of <deleted>.

An even more lucrative idea ... raise 2 bargirls! ????

Oh Great Wise One, how about spending less on the Military and increase Social Assistance to the poor.  Oh sorry my bad, you ARE the Military.  2 chickens?  Sheesh!

Perhaps, instead, the family should buy 2 iPhones less, or wait 2 extra years before buying that new pickup or motorbike. Might help with their household debt...

yes , at a certain age it can start , some early and some later..... even some  dies whiteout getting dementia

Are you breaking even?

Fresh eggs are great but my booky won't take eggs as collateral.

I think the idea is not even too stupid.

I think in general Thailand is an ideal place for self-sufficient lifestyle.  Tropical weather, mostly fertile land and no property taxes.

Every family should grow their own food and be self-sufficient to be independent from the government ????

I had two pet ducks, one boy, one girl, in the garden a few years back (Khaki Campbells)                                                          .

The girl produced more eggs than I could eat (if you could find them).

I remember cycling around to find them one evening, I cycled back with them flying at shoulder height either side of me.

The misses gave them away, too much poop on the doorstep.

Just about broke even on the feed/eggs.

Yeah, we tried ducks, too messy and hard to find the eggs.

Chooks are creatures of habit and always lay in the same place, actually all the girls use the same two nest boxes so collecting eggs is a dream.
