Dissatisfied and lonely expats

Been camping here for decades and like States it's really taking off here.

People can still eek out a bit of freedom away from the stupid hysteria over masks and covid.

Of course, OP is broke, has no hobbies and few interests. Can't travel to other countries but I imagine there's a lot of Thailand that he hasn't seen. With 40 million tourists not in the country and a lag in the economy I can't think of a better time to go have a look.

Lots of attractive young women camping as well. If you have any sort of camping or bushcraft skills being able to knock up a tent quick or hang a hammock... I literally met my wife by offering to sort out her hammock for her.

Some great national parks up country as well as islands in the Andaman

Or you can play video games, watch porn and continue to moan.

You are right. There are bars all over Thailand.

i think i didnt explain clearly - I didnt mean continuously. in 17 years i did get married and have 1 son, work, hobbies, friends.....

Ive seen soi 4 over 17 years and have sat there from time to time watching the world go by. still do occassionally, but started to find it less enjoyable now.

As i said, i have more fun with the missis.

100% agreed. Behavior has changed. Mobiles more important than a „hey, sexy man welcome“.

Maybe Thailand is for people with sociopath tendencies, I feel no satasfaction here  hanging around bars and drinking alcohol anymore.

I find it boring.

Hmmm....definition of insanity?  "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Maybe you just need a shrink.

I think many get despondent at this time of year, and seeking solace at a bar doesn't seem to be helping you.

Maybe re-establish connections with friends and family in the olde country? Or seek out new ones here?

Change up your routine, exercise, diet.

I guess you just visit the wrong bars if only meeting that type of people, unless you specifically mean girl bars, then it is hard to avoid nowadays indeed. Many weird people around who seem depressed but perhaps they always been around, we just never noticed it while there were plenty of girls and tourists to compensate.

I personally like it much less now as there are barely girls, everyone wants to drink with you as there is no other customer (with money). Have been going more to restaurants lately and spend it on some tapas and good wine instead. But yeah, I miss the packed happy places.

I was bored with the bar scene in my 20's.

Never understood it, unless just wanting a quick, anonymous 1 night stand at the local 'meat market' all you can drink night / 1 fee.   Cheap drinks & thrills ????

In Thailand, the last place I'd go for intelligent conversation or to meet a chickie, unless on short holiday and have done no research of the area.

Do people really need to learn social skills in their 40-50-60s ... ????

Did you ever "think" bars are beers will be all you do for the rest of your life? Really?

Since my first Thailand holiday and since I live here I enjoyed bars and beers. But not only!

I don't think there is any one activity which is fun 24/7. Do a little bit of this and a little of that and enjoy life!

Yes I will goto  chang Mai for a nice deetox instead of the self loathing red light area full of the artificial smiles and  expensive drinks.

There used to be a place for people like the OP.

It was called Thermaes.

Probably gone now or morphed into something nowhere near as good as the original.

Same as all the red lights, Pattaya included, that place is still waiting for a big rush of farangs... 2 years later... Nothing

Yes

But to be fair you had to be pretty drunk or f@%# up to enjoy that original place.

Nooooooo. Sometimes I would only have a coffee, chat to a few girls about this that and the ' other '  then go home with a cutie.

Never did like bars much, sitting on a stool hunkered over a beer staring at poor dancing to bad music.
