Smart move to hold the ATK numbers, we test not so many people and those who do the ATK test and will be positive can rise the numbers too high, so denying the truth everything looks well.

Think you may be correct. If Omicron takes off be a lot more ATK been done I think. Can't have any of those reported messing up the image. Remember Anutin said Thailand was too strong and would beat Omicron. TIT.

The only people I know in Thailand who have tested positive for COVID did so in the last 2 weeks and then only did a rapid test at home. They certainly didn't report their result to the government. I am sure there are countless other people in the same boat.

They lost their sense of smell and taste and had a definitive cough despite being fully vaccinated.

There is absolutely no accuracy in any numbers pushed out for public consumption in Thailand. Not only COVID.

Happily, the milder Omicron variant will most probably sweep through Thailand and the rest of the world in a couple of months and hopefully not mutate into anything more severe.

I realize it's not that relevant to compare countries. However.....

The 22,897 new cases across SEA is in stark contrast to one state of Oz. Also note that 14,000 of those were in Vietnam alone.

NSW a state with population of approx 8 million yesterday new cases were over 12,000 and on the rise.

I know it is a Thailand thread but this is relevant. With the caveat that at this time of year numbers can be a bit choppy. Australia is becoming a bit of a test bed as the situation in many of those states (not NSW) was basically zero cases only a couple of weeks ago, no prior infections and no Delta outbreak to muddy the waters of the hospitalization data as in UK. With what should be regarded as a good health system, high vaccination rates and good testing and reporting regimes. Now its a full blown Omicron outbreak in Qld for instance gone from zero to 2200 in less than 2 weeks, 5 million people, equivalent to about 30k here. I'll be keeping an eye on it as I'll be going there in 2 weeks. But for here for the moment the numbers are concerning, but lets just wait for the trend over the next few days.

And in France had over 200000 case , have population little smaler than in Thailand.

I was under the impression the UK was administering boosters very quickly, not according to this guy..............

Administer more third doses and quicker, Federation of Thai Industries urges govt

Thailand should quicken the pace of administering the third dose of Covid-19 vaccines to keep the Omicron situation from getting worse as in the UK, Federation of Thai Industries vice-chairman Kriengkrai Thiennukul recommended.

According to Kriengkrai, the UK is administering the third dose to their citizens “slowly”.

Contracting Omicron may not significantly raise vaccinated patient’s immunity against Delta: doctor

It may be too soon to be excited by findings by South African scientists that patients who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 and then contracted Omicron had developed significantly stronger immunity against the Delta variant, said Dr Anan Jongkaewwatana from the National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Anan said the South African study titled “Omicron infection enhances neutralising immunity against the Delta variant”, which has not been peer-reviewed, could be inconclusive due to too small a number of examples – only 13.

Listed new cases dont show that.Still seem to be work clusters, factories not entertainment at all.

You obviously don't know anyone in the hospitality trade on the ground in Pattaya.

Nice to see someone who still believes the "listed" cases in a country that's just stopped publishing it's ATK figures.

Would you put your hand up if your ATK tested positive?

Yes Mr @Olmate it's off for a fortnights lie down in the hospital for you.

Thought not.

No idea how that rant relates to todays increase in numbers.

Anecdotal but  it's spreading in bars. If you own a bar are you going to report ATK positives within your staff or just tell them to go home and isolate. Report it or send them down the hospital and what are the consequences? Minimum the business will have to close temporarily, proper deep clean and loss of earnings. Then the questions start, were you adhering to the covid free rules, did your customers use the covid apps, where's your record of customer visits. Oh you weren't following the rules, here's a nice little fine. Plus the losing face because your bar was a covid spreader spot plus the inconvenience of the 10-14 day possible incarceration. Always said the covid rules in Thailand do not encourage reporting of positive cases unless someone is sick enough to go to a hospital or clinic. I know this type of thing happens in the UK too. UK's covid figures are under reported I'm sure, except the ones who require medical treatment. You can continue to look through those rose tinted glasses by all means but it won't change the reality on the ground.

And then not sure if you still have the 2-3 week lag for the boosters protection to kick in?
