BANGKOK, Dec 30 (TNA) – There were 934 Omicron cases in the country and local infections rose as arrivals slowed down, according to the Department of Medical Sciences.

Dr Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the department, said the 934 Omicron cases comprised 577 arrivals and 357 local infections and they existed in all public health regions of the Public Health Ministry.

Local infections would outnumber infected arrivals because the number of visitors was slowing down, he said.

Yeah, this guy's quite the "All the other falang are bad and I'm the only good one!" type.

  • It needs to be in the millions. Probably will be in a couple of months. Fairly sure the official daily infection rate will be 2000 or so. If these idiots shut things down then you really have to wonde

My experience is that Omicron confirmed testing takes 3 days, as Bangkok is the only place that has the labs to do the testing, so today they are reporting Omicron infections from 3 days ago, that were confirmed today.

In 3 days from now, we will know the numbers from today, and it will be significantly higher than 1,000...

...and that does not count the asymptomatic, and those that test positive with ATK and self isolate Thai style and infect more people...

Yeah we never know for sure.

We don't know in other countries as well, but other countries are closer to the truth because of their massive testing.

Our numbers in Denmark shot through the roof and our positive % also explored to 12 % of the total tests which indicate we have a huge number of people with covid not being registered.

Don't Thailand use those new PCR tests that can detect omicron without doing whole genome sequencing.

That could maybe save them some time.

+ people don't get punished financially as much for testing positive

Not in Chiang Mai - all tests had to be sent to BKK for Omicron testing - and took 3 days.

...and test numbers is probably at a reasonable currently, and when the testing needs grow, I think they will just assume everyone is Omicron...

And self isolate arrogant  farang style and go out clubbing, shopping  drinking  and whoring I think you mean

Wow, just read this morning's news of 700+. Another 250, or so, is 33% more in only one day! If it continues like that, then the tally will be 10,000 in less than two weeks...

My guess would be at least 10,000 already judging by how fast this variant spreads in other countries.  Whatever number is put on it by Thai Authorities you can X 10 as they are never truthful !

No, you are incorrect...I don't think they go shopping...

But I am sure there are, or will be, plenty of minor symptom infected people that are selfish enough to go out and do what they do, with no regard that they could be infecting others.

Think UK went from 20 to now 90% of all reported in about 3 weeks so think your 10k may be a little conservative.

Or their bosses telling them to carry on working.

Ever gone shopping with a cold? Gone to work with a cold? You have a cold you must know you're infectious. We have all done it. Of course the thing is you can spread it before you become symptomatic or you are asymtomaic and don't know you're spreading it. Magnificent virus this particular coronavirus and it's variants that may well be in the process of wiping itself out. Let's hope so.

You clearly don't mean the meaning of rant..lol.. But I suspect you disagree with my view thus your pejorative  comment which was in fact:  short, to the point and well puncuated. The antithesis  of a rant.

Correct just look at the situation in Sydney NSW the infections doubled in one day to 11.000

WE are overrun with omicron here.  The horror that is unfolding is as follows:

asymptomatic till an antigen test shows it.  Around 75 percent ish are asymptomatic who test with the antigen test and have no symptoms.  25 percent gets cold symptoms for 3 days and it goes away.

That is all.

Not at all scientific and hell, I could be from russia posting this but I"m not.  Our ICU capacity has dropped by one and this is the biggest nothing burger that you could imagine.

We have no idea how widespread it is because there aren't enough tests to test everyone.  IT's madness!  People who test with antigen tests which are free don't tell the government because... why?  It's a three day cold.  They don't give a damn either.

This wave of the pandemic isn nothing.

We've all met that type - In reality there are plenty of us that travel and live around Asia for all sorts of reasons - Asian friends - scuba-diving and snorkelling (back in the day) - golf - winter sunshine - a destination to switch off

Ranting on about Westerners is daft - Been out around Bangkok today and the BTS was very busy, malls busy, food courts, Thais working and going to and from work... Everyone automatically doing as much as possible with masks and distancing.

The point is we all have to go out as there are things we have to do, so it's hard to fathom what sort of lives those have, that constantly advocate closing everything and confining people to homes. Self-isolation might be possible if the funds permit it but the majority simply can't without extremely grave consequences to lives and livelihood.

COVID-19 hospitalization surge among U.S. children spurs new Omicron concerns

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/covid-19-hospitalization-surge-among-us-children-spurs-new-omicron-concerns-2021-12-30/

Considering about 35% of the American population are unvaccinated and about 90% are overweight or obese, that's hardly surprising is it. Any nation that refuses vaccination and has an unhealthy relationship with obesity really should not be on anyone's covid statistics and charts apart form their own as it is completely misleading to other countries figures

Yes, it was meant to be conservative.

The figures I hear every two days are always doubling. So, in this rate, by sunday there will be around 2000, tuesday 4000, friday around 8000 and sunday 16000. Let's hope not.... otherwise we're gonna be in a lockdown sooner than anticipated.
