Gave up quarter way through

What was so bad about this movie?  I watched it last night. Nice story about a Ranger and  a military K9 working dog. Obvious what the outcome would be and a nice salute to what our GIs and K9s go through .

Nothing to do with Rangers and their K9 working dogs.

I understand all about artistic license and that movies are not real life, but I found the characters silly and stupid and when it came to the part where a couple were sucking lollypops I gave up.

I realise that some will like the movie, and a whole bunch of people  invested their time and money into making it so they obviously thought it was worth while.

Well good for them, I just thought it was silly and stupid.

Rated only 6.7 on IMDB.

I rarely watch anything under 7.00

Usually aim for 7.5 and above.

Just finished watching "Colditz"  -  IMBD Rating 8.4

Excellent BBC TV Series 1-2.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068059/    Colditz   -   TV Series   -   1972–1974

The prisoners in Colditz Castle make many attempts to escape captivity from the arrival of the first British prisoners after Dunkirk in 1940 until the liberation of the castle by the Americans in 1945. Colditz was a "special" camp, designed by the Nazis to hold high-risk and politically important prisoners.

Thought this was decent - not great, but interesting and a bit different.  Worth a watch on a slow night, if you will.

I did comment on it a few posts back and I thought it was pretty good, and I knew nothing about Denmark's polar expedition in 1909, so the movie was very informative for me.

Oscar nominations for Best Picture

“Belfast”

“CODA”

“Don’t Look Up”

“Drive My Car"

“Dune”

“King Richard”

“Licorice Pizza”

“Nightmare Alley”

“The Power of the Dog”

“West Side Story”

Would you pick one of these movies as the best picture of 2022 or do you have another?

I have not seen “West Side Story”,  “Licorice Pizza”  or "Drive My Car" but if I had to pick one of these I think I would pick "King Richard". I don't really remember all the movies I have seen in 2022 but "Finch" is one I really enjoyed and do not see on the list of nominations.

Finished watching all 10 Best Picture nominations. I’ve rated them into 3 “would I watch them again” categories of “Yes, please!” “No thanks” & “Yeah, why not”:

No thanks: WS Story, Power of the Dog, Licorice Pizza, Dune & Belfast.

Yeah, why not: Nightmare Alley, King Richard & Drive My Car.

Yes please!: Don’t Look Up & CODA

The betting agencies have Power of the Dog and Belfast as the top 2…

You are better than me. I still have 3 on the list that I have not watched.  None of the 3 are on your "Yes Please" group so I am in no hurry to watch them. I had King Richard a bit higher but overall agree with your ratings.

If you had to pick one would it be Don’t Look Up or CODA?

I am sure the Oscar will go to one of films on the "No Thanks" group. I never seem to agree with the winner.

Remind me, haven't seen it for years, but I thought the ending was pretty straightforward, ie a pitched battle between Dustin and the local rednecks, where he clearly was the winner.

Wrong movie. That is about the Power of the dog movie.

I liked Dune. Best movie version I've seen. At least the stillsuits are realistic, unlike the shams in the Kyle MacLachlan version.

Shining Vale. I'm really enjoying this, some very funny dialog with Greg Kinnear and Courtenay Cox.Only gets a 6.5 score on IMDB but I think it's much better than that. Episodes 1-3 available most places.

For anyone Interested.

The Colditz Glider:-

It was one of the most audacious escape plots of the Second World War, and it has left an intriguing question hanging – almost literally – in the air. Could British prisoners have succeeded in their attempt to fly off the roof of the notorious Colditz Castle and make their escape in a glider?

The fact that they managed  to construct one at all, from materials including bedsteads, floorboards, cotton sheets  and porridge, is in itself astonishing. But engineers and historians have long questioned whether their two-man machine would actually fly.
