Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has posted a reminder regarding the fines in place for people who fail to wear a face mask in public.

The post warns that first offenders will be fined up to 1,000 baht for not wearing a mask.

A person who is caught not wearing a mask for a second time will be fined between 1,000 baht and 10,000 baht.

For a third offence, fines of up to 20,000 baht may be issued.

Hello?

It's starting to look like the rest of the world is backing off on those draconian rules.

That's probably why the tourists don't understand why they have to wear masks.

Let's be realistic, the rule about having to wear a mask when alone in a car or riding a moto is over reach.

Very few foreigners on Koh Phangan wear masks and there has been NO enforcement of the law. Parties every day with hundreds of unmasked tourists.

Yes. I have just spent a few days on KPN with friends.

Pretty much everywhere that we went, we were the only foreigners wearing masks. All others - maskless.

The number of recorded Covid cases on KPN for the last four weeks - 683. (From the Koh Samui thread.)

Population according to Wikipedia - just over 10,000. Not including tourists.

No enforcement = meaningless.

nd how do they know it is not the first time or so you don't wear a mask??? Would be better to enforce the rule on wearing a helmet.. That would save more lives than no mask

  • Popular Post

Many countries just about to cancel any restrictions, masks either...

sure bet the percentage of foreigners - per head count of 100 - being fined is higher than thais

Here in Denmark we dropped all restrictions, even if the numbers of positive are through the roof.

We are only 5.8 million, and yesterday we had 55.000 positive cases! (Only 26 in ICU)

If Thailand had the same numbers of infections that would add up to 650.000 daily cases in Thailand, since they have 12x as many people.

I can't even imagine what kind of restrictions Thailand would have if they officially tested 650.000 positive in a single day....

But here we move on with life with no restrictions.

Hopefully Thailand will some day too.

The ultimate sign of full submission.  Masking will become a cultural icon as it completely fits the Thai culture of the commoners submitting to power.  Which is why masks will never go away.  They'll simply be institutionalized.
"Come - Vacation in wonderful Masked-Up Thailand!"

And they will lose tourism market share to countries who open up first and dump these restriction - Like forced masking outside in the open air.

They don't make sense unless you think about it.....

Their country, their rules.

I think he is from Denmark if my memory is correct, but having a profife picture with a mask on, I'm assuming he is following the rules in Thailand.

Which essentially is it.

Follow the rules in the country you are in and if you don't like those rules, find another country to live in or to visit.

Which is what many tourists do when they turn down Thailands fine palette of restrictions.

You can't smoke a joint and drink vodka red bull when wearing a mask!

Yes, stay home you nasty foreigners, don’t give Thailand your hard earned cash and don’t have a life. Uggh, how Orwellian. Inside, yes for now, but Agree with others, having to mask up when out in the open is horribly draconian and oppressive.

And as said this’ll probably be it for Thailand, they are too easily swayed. People will flout the silly rule (‘their country, their rules’… oh gawd), while others will get het up and raspy at the freedom seeker wanting to sunbathe on a beach without a chunk of S strapped across their mush.

I rode my push bike the entire length of Dongtan/Jomtien Beach Road this morning. Virtually every foreigner was not wearing a mask or doing the "chin diaper" thing, all but 1 Thai I saw wore the mask properly. Yes, I was wearing a mask as Thailand has told us to do, and until the law changes, we should comply. Is it annoying? Hell yes it is, but it's a minor inconvenience to show you care.

I was at the traffic lights in town and they were being controlled by the Police and right next to them around 6 or so mo-cys. All but one not wearing a mask or crash helmet. I mentioned this to the one who knows everything sat next to me, and why the cops not doing anything. She trotted out her usual response "Thai people"

A mask is as effective as an amulet in relieving one of their income.

Ignore the helmet laws. Ignore one way streets. Ignore turn indicators. Ignore speed limits. The Hub of Ignorance.

I understood that you don't have to but need to have a mask to hand if stopped? If you are in a car with anybody else, even own family, then yes.

My Danish friends stand too close to me.

Ignoring the helmet law is acceptable. Ignoring the mask is not, people here value the regard for the community more than personal freedom. 'Greng Jai' has gone into overload with masks.

A sport in Thailand is to watch motorcyclists with no Helmet, drive like crazy but strap on that mask.  I blame a lack of statistical knowledge.

There is no such rule.

No problem, then, you've protected yourself (if only from a fine), no need to worry about those who don't.

Criminal records.  It says for those caught for a second time.

Maybe Thailand is, also.  "Just about to cancel restrictions" means that restrictions are still in force.
