77kaoded reported on a truly unbelievable story that begs the question of the lack of responsibility of the mother involved.

Muang Sa Kaeo police were shocked when a member of the public reported finding a four months old infant in the middle of the Sa Kaeo to Aranyaprathet Road on Sunday night.

The child had minor head injuries and was taken to the local hospital. A social media appeal was launched to try and find the mother.

A short while after as Pol Lt-Col Manop Kiawwanich went to the scene to investigate a man and a woman called Mathana Thaenhan, 30, turned up to inquire if they'd found a child.

Mathana explained that she had been to a festival with her boyfriend and was holding her infant son between him and her on a motorcycle.

She was so drunk that she dropped the infant without realising it. Then she recovered her senses and went back he was nowhere to be found having already been discovered and taken to the hospital.

Police thought it might have been deliberate but CCTV showed her returning to the scene to look for her son and going to the local hospital.

Reporters went to investigate at the address the mother gave police and found only people who said she was not there much after her parents died.

No responsible parent would ever get drunk whilst they are looking after their kids. This girl clearly isn't cut out for motherhood.

It seems many Thai (and I am sure not only Thai) parents somehow "think" that their kids grow up alone and no parenting is required. Just give them some water and rice and all will be fine. And then sometimes later maybe they realize that it's not so fine. But do they blame themselves? Do they even realize that being a parent is a lot more than putting a baby in this world?

Authorities need to rescue this child and help educate the mother....  If not, we may very well sadly see another ‘drowned in a 5m deep pond’ story once the child learns to walk and can wonder about freely while the mother sleeps off her hangover....

.... A very sad state of affairs... Strong warning signals need to be acknowledged and firm action taken to help the  family.

This is a perfect example of where it Thai authorities can be proactive instead of simply reacting with outrage when something worse happens.

If this was in certain other countries she would face criminal charges and the child taken.

But anyone is allowed to have children with absolutely no qualifications needed.

Dont you know... consequences arent instilled in the family values when hrowing up a local  national.   Thats why they do the things they do... never had real consequences.

I watch animals and street dogs in the wild mating only to have the male run off and leave the female to raise the child alone.  This isnt what happens in a certain culture now is it?

And then when they become a young adult, the child should send the parent money and take care of the parent and their vices, and the child as an adult can repeat the cycle as the child wasnt taught to save and plan for their future, rather let the parent squander  it away.

We call it TiT ????

The main problem with babies, they don't come with a parenting manual. Unfortunately, its the same the world over, but more necessary in Thailand then most other countries.

Good idea there! A breeding licence. Can you imagine the training course? Would you have to wear L plates? How big a brown envelope required?

Just stating a fact.

Can’t believe the outrage on here. Who hasn’t dropped a kid in the road when pi$$ed out of your box?

When I see parents with a young child on a bike, I immediately know they are not fit to raise children.
