BANGKOK, Feb 15 (TNA) – New COVID-19 insurance conditions for treatment and daily compensation take effect today.

 

The Thai Life Assurance Association said that the compensation for COVID-19 in-patients was eligible for policy holders on the condition that they meet any of the five criteria imposed by the Public Health Ministry.

 

They are the body temperatures that remain over 39 degrees Celsius for longer than 24 hours, more than 25 breaths per minute for adults, oxygen saturation of less than 94%, the changing conditions of chronic illness that require close observation and breathing difficulty, inactivity and less appetite for infected children.

Looks like forced hospitalization needs to be done away with and home isolation or self quarantine put in place. Without insurance to cover those not meeting the new requirements people will not be able to pay.....

Therefore, on behalf of Accident and Health Claims Department, we would like to inform you about the guidelines for considering admission as a Hospitalization for Covid-19 infectious disease according to the criteria of the Ministry of Public Health. 1. In the case of receiving treatment as an inpatient (Hospitalization)

 

Adhering to the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health of January 4 , 2022 regarding the admission of patients infected with COVID-19 to be admitted as “inpatients” in hospitals, there must be medical necessity and medical standards. according to the rules of the Ministry of Public Health "any of the following":

 

1.1. When the fever is higher than 39 degrees Celsius for more than 24 hours

1.2. Breathing faster than 25 breaths per minute in adults

1.3. Oxygen Saturation < 94%

1.4. Diseases that have changed or need to closely monitor the symptoms at the discretion of the physician

1.5. In children, if you have difficulty breathing, seep down, drink milk or eat less by considering the medical facts that appear in the document Physical examination results, lab results are the main

 

Remark : This Criteria will be effective on date 15 Feb 2022

 

2. In the case of not meet the conditions for admission as an inpatient

2.1. If there are no symptoms or there are few symptoms,Failure to meet the 5 conditions must use home isolation or community isolation , which will not be able to withdraw medical expenses from the company

2.2. Coverage “Detected” Covid 19 who stay in specialized wards ( Hospitel ) and Field Hospital (Camp Bed) according to the criteria for being transferred from the origin hospital must have evidence of appointment from the Ministry of Public Health (สพ.อ.9) .

I received both a Thai and an English copy of the message from LMG (that I posted above).

I used Google Translate on the Thai version. It produced better English than the English version that I copied from my email and posted above.

 

Mandating that travelers/tourists have a 50k USD policy to enter the country that covers Covid will not go over very well with the foreign insurers when they see the Thai insurers will not be covering those that are forced into a facility with minor symptoms.  Looks like the Covid policies will now become useless unless you meet the new metrics.  That in itself is very worrisome in case you are forced into treatment and do not meet those metrics.  As I said before who will be able to pay for this out of their own pockets.  The rest of the world has moved forward on this already, and as of today here in California, mask wearing has been lifted.  Omicron here is on the decline, except of course for those not vaccinated who are becoming ill enough to seek treatment.  I just paid $300 USD for a RT PCR test here in Palm Springs so I can fly back to Thailand coming up.  Asia on the other hand is still far behind with the multitude of restrictions.  I thought this Thai Government had wanted all to learn to live with Covid and move forward...........yet their actions speak louder than words.

Then by their own criteria folks should not be forced into a hospital if they do not meet these "medical necessity and medical standards" that they now use as a loophole to not pay insurance claims

If I could chance getting the test back within 3 days, possibly on the day I fly out it would only cost $150 USD, but who wants to be sitting on pins and needles as you are now at the airport and the results still have not come in.....

I really don't think you mean to hold the US up as a model of how pandemics should be managed.

 

This is Asia and the cultural differences are hardwired when it comes to concern for health and generally the community around you. One might even say the polar opposite of the US in broad terms.

 

I completely agree that the world is starting to move on, and no doubt this will accelerate over the next few months. But, for that reason alone, Asia will broadly lag in dropping restrictions.

I have twice paid about 350 USD in San Francisco for the same.  If you want reliably fast turnaround that’s the going rate.  In most of the EU it’s 80-120 EUR for 24h results last I checked.
