Since when has Thailand cared about former USSR countries?

Probably as long as there has existed some  unheralded  if not discreet trade to mutual advantage.

"Former USSR" countries abound ! Therefore so does accumulative trade potential.

It doesn't at all of course...

However, when something as huge as this is happening on the global stage, those in Thailand in position of power start salivating at the potential optics of playing international ‘big-shots’... It just looks too good in the Thai Press and those who don’t know any better will think their leading hero’s have not just ‘controlled covid-19’ when the rest of the world couldn’t... they can also prevent warfare half way around the world....

"Turning to humanitarian concerns, he called on parties to refrain from the use of force and to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure."

just a time of time! none of the concerned parties will listen at that appeal

Permanent Representative Dr. Suriya Chindawongse made the remark during the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly. He said Thailand has been following developments in Ukraine with deep concerns, especially the escalation of tension threatening international peace and security.

It’s pretty obvious after the UN Security Council meeting that it is a complete farce, they would have known beforehand that Russia were going to veto, but I guess another couple of days of 5 Star meals and accommodation trumps a war I guess.

The Ukraine is an independent country that bothers no one. Then it gets invaded by Russia.  Probably because they are concerned Ukraine will become part of NATO.
As for the comments Thailand made regarding the issue.  I personally think that was a very nice gesture.
It’s not uncommon for governments to express concern about a crisis.  Even though they are not directly involved in it.

Thailand has been welcoming Russian tourist for years (God knows why !) and they have been trying to get them to come, despite Covid. Now they are slagging the Russian government. Thailand the hub of back stabbing and brown nosing.

Empty, but of course obligatory tat as with most countries. Putin can’t be talked to or reasoned with. The guy is inhuman and has no integrity, as Macron found out.

Exactly. I bet if we were on, say, a Ugandan expat forum, we would be discussing what their government had to say.

Essentially, Thailand has through its silence sided with Russia.

Quote

Ukraine invasion: Singapore’s condemnation aside, rest of Asean’s ambivalence is ‘shocking’.

Singapore, Indonesia condemn Russia’s assault; Malaysia ‘sad’; Vietnam wants diplomacy; Philippines, Thailand focus on their nationals; Myanmar’s junta backs Putin.

Southeast Asia, which has long called for big nations to respect international law, now seems largely silent. Oil and the South China Sea partly explain why. But silence has a cost too.
