Daily News Thai Caption:Teen 'madam' arrested

 

The chairman of the anti-human trafficking group Ronnasit Foundation, Ronnasit Phreuksayachiwa and Thai police have arrested a 15 year old girl. 

 

Daily News said that the police have evidence that she offered under 18s for sex on Instagram.

The suspect was taken to the Thanyaburi police station in Pathum Thani after her arrest at a house in that jurisdiction.

She must have learned from a family member or had experience already in the business, so sad either way.  Seems that this type of work has become ingrained in society and is done by school girls, boys, college folks trying to pay their way and then ......well it is what it is.

They're getting younger all the time huh? this business of procuring young girls for prostitution is as old as time and lucrative too that it until you get caught...

And the fact that this governments policies have increased poverty then sad as it maybe then desperate people do desperate things sometimes.

Just how do they prove this ?  A good lawyer is going to say it was a scam. Heck, sounds like a school project also. Just some techy girl having a bit of a laugh. Going to be hard to prove she actually sold or rented someone.  I sure hope there aren't pictures.

I doubt it.

It's not poverty. It's just earning money in an easy way. Money to buy the latest iPhone or other' necessary" things in young girl's life.

Similar to students at university in Hostess Services.

Or buy the latest iPhone.  That's where Thai culture really comes into play.

Are they getting younger? Or is there only a higher awareness?

When I arrived in Thailand in the 90th 16 year old girls were not unusual in the farang bars. And I am sure they were not unusual at all in Thai entertainment businesses.

No, but how many times in wherever you came from have you read of 15 year olds offering a prostitute for hire business? And just yesterday there was another case of underage girls being offered for hire. Now, I wonder how Thailand got its worldwide reputation as a land of prostitutes.........

Human trafficking is the catch phrase of the moment, that's all. Pimping is different, but call something more serious and it makes better headlines and might result in higher sentences.

Obviously it is sad when 15 year old girls do this.

I think maybe we/society/politicians/... should think about why they do that.

I guess they want to earn money. So what do they do with the money?

How many of them do it because the mother is sick and in hospital and the little brother has nothing to eat. And how many do it i.e. to buy the newest phone or clothes or whatever teenagers do these days?

 

Maybe it's time to educate those teenagers that having the newest phone and designer clothes is not important. But then, from whom do they learn that? Maybe from their parents or older siblings? Or on TikTok, etc.?

 

I don't have a solution for all this but I find it strange under how much pressure kids (think) they are.

Educational system worlwide has failed big time. When I see an obese 8 year old playing vdo games, it makes me sick.

It should be something like across province borders, sure.  Not that this isn't despicable, but I'm one for labelling things accurately and avoiding sensationalism or manipulation.

It's very common for teenage girls to have children in villages in Issan.

 

After the boys move on they need money to survive.

That is another aspect. Sure

She is a victim not perpetrator. Catch the ones around her who enabled this environment. Catching a 15 year old as madam will not make a difference. Enable and create more oppurtunities so that youth may able to find the right path not the easiest one.

Underage is human trafficking.

Agreed, vastly different just read "Slave Girl" by Sarah Forsyth to bring home true horrors of being trafficked/tricked into prostitution with no way out!

But if a 15 year old girl is willing to sell herself to make money then I wouldn't call that human trafficking.

Yeah, I know one of those victims (over 20) who was rescued in Korea. After she returned to Thailand she looked for the next opportunity to return to Korea to make more money - until she will be "rescued" again.

I would not call it human trafficking either, but I would still look at the girls/women as victims.

The same media/people would claim that companies that build factories in Thailand are 'exploiting" the workers. 

 

To them, if went to Thailand with an organization to give away other people's money and make people more dependent on handouts, you would be a hero. But if you came to Thailand  and built a factory, hired people, taught them skills, paid them and made them less dependent on handouts, they would despise you.

What are the "various Thai cultural factors" that you're claiming propagate child prostitution?
