RTP promise justice as Porsche driving top cop's son over the alcohol limit

Pornmet Songmetta - the rich son of billionaire former top cop General Wirachai Songmetta - has tested over the limit for alcohol.

 

Met region 8 commande Maj-Gen Manop Sukhonthanaphat confirmed this yesterday.

 

Pornmet was invoved in a collision with a Pakistani national on a motorcycle that left the foreigner dead at the end of last week. 

 

Daily News reported that Pornmet was above the 50 mg % limit but did not state how much. They also said that he tested negative for the presence of drugs.

 

Manop said that investigations continue as to with whom and where Pornmet was drinking.

 

He would now be charged with negligent driving causing death and DUI. Whether a speeding charge would be added is still under investigation.

 

Manop promised justice for all sides in the case.

That will be at the forefront of public fears in the case, notes ASEAN NOW. The case of red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya or Boss is still discussed almost daily after the scion fled abroad facing similar charges related to the death of a policeman in Bangkok in 2012. 

 

he remains a fugitive from justice. 

 

The Yoovidhya family is one of the richest in Thailand. Wirachai was named in a Forbes list as the 36th richest person in Thailand last year.

 

His family and son Pornmet have multiple interests in production and power generation companies. 

 

Wirachai was sacked from the RTP after leaking a tape to the media between himself and former RTP chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda.

If I was as rich as this guy I'd be getting my drivers to do the driving when I'm on the turps.

Being the son of an ex-topcop I would have thought dad would have given him clear instructions, like 'what ever you do, do not ever get yourself into trouble with the law) 

It's a no brainer, obviously dad has failed in showing this delinquent the right path.

so the original reference to it being the bike riders fault is no longer valid, bet this p*sses off the offender and his family but with all the other ways "rich/connected" thais have gotten away with killing others I dont really expect to see anything really happen to this moron, drink driving is something a lot of thais seem to do, they have no regard to the safety of other road users and its why we see so many die on the roads here, time to start hitting offenders with very severe action, would be good if this cretin was put away for a long time but I doubt that will happen with his connections/family wealth

"Promising" justice is an interesting statement.

 

It's almost if everyone understands that justice is not some inherent right available to all, but rather something nebulous which requires a "promise", from the police no less.

 

I'm sure joe Ferrari claims that his use of a plastic bag is also "justice"?

It's probably going to be another few days (due to more negotiations) to find out the reading.

what in the other countries would be the a matter of hours into investigation, in thailand it takes 3 days for alco and drug results and still waiting for speed readings. That with tens of cameras on the bridge and the very car black box to be checked.

This very strange move to search for drinking companions might lead to charging them and deflecting blame from porsche driver

I was sure (with my sarcastic post about the test taking several days) that his results would be 'clean.'

An other drunk killing someone with a car. I don't mind people using drugs (alcohol included) but when they then drive they should face serious punishment (if over the legal limits). This should add to his punishment.

 

I doubt it will but we can hope. Plus it seems that his father was fired for going up against a higher up, so maybe no protection for him.

What an idiot. All that money and he still doesn't hire a driver to ferry him from club to club. His family must have loads of 'help' sitting around.

 

As for the 3 days to get the alcohol reading, presumably this was to give enough time for the reading to drop into triple digit territory.

 

I'm guessing this guy probably won't have to flee the country like the Red Bull killer, since he 'only' killed a lowly foreigner as opposed to a cop. Perhaps a large fine, a few donations and a week at the monkhood is on the horizon.

An incredibly oxymoronic statement. RTP promises justice against the son of a super rich ex cop and ex army man. 

 

Even if his dad was not an ex cop, being super rich puts him totally above the law. Same applies to bring ex army. But all three together? He has triple immunity. He will likely pay a large sum to the family, (and to the police), and receive a suspended sentence, if it even goes to trial.

It was my understanding that he was at a hospital after the accident because of his facial injuries from his steering wheel. I'm guessing he should have had his blood test for alcohol then. That's why I was wondering about the length of time to only partially release his results.
