Thailand’s Disease Control Department’s Office of the Office of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee will seek an explanation from those responsible for posting an advertisement of a brand of liquor on Facebook using Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban, a Thai-born singer and member of South Korea’s famous “Blackpink” girl band, as its brand ambassador.

Disease Control Department Deputy Director-General Dr. Kajornsak Kaewcharat said on Wednesday that the department had received several complaints over the advertisement in question.

He said that the Office of the Alcoholic Control Committee has assigned officials to investigate the matter, which may contravene Thailand’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Act and the Prime Minister’s Office regulations prohibiting the online sale and advertisement of alcoholic beverages.

Violation of the regulations is subject to a fine and/or imprisonment on conviction.

Apparently these nut cases have absolutely nothing better to do. The government should be ashamed of itself to waste resources,  tax payers money, on this sort of nonsense.

Whatever was she thinking ? money or thought she was above the law ?

She is not the focus of the investigation; she didn't break any law; she signed a contract abroad and the publicity (commercial) is not used in Thailand (where publicity for alcohol is illegal).
The investigation looks for Thai fans (and fangroups) in Thailand reposting the foreign publicity on social media (FB, IG).

Don’t know what all the fuss is about; she’s quite pretty when she gets her hair up and smiles. ????

Local plebs posting on Facebook are much easier for the local 'authorities' to bully and extort than an internationally known star with money.

By the way, very often, when I browse the CNN website, with a Thai internet address, I get advertisements of Chang Beer on my screen.
To me that seems a very clear violation of the law.

Just saw the advert on YouTube. Pages of comments of glowing praise. So powerful, so brave. Girl power, sure. Go follow your dreams. With a drink in your hand I guess.

No one's addressed the elephant in the room. Aren't most of her fans not of drinking age?

Yeah what about banning the advertisement of alcoholic politicians at election time?

Do these morons have nothing better to do with their time? Like maybe go on a snipe hunt, look for a sky hook or a left handed spanner. What is wrong with these people?

The "fuzzed" area is a bottle of Chivas Regal whisky she is holding!!

By law in Thailand you can not show your product in advertisements,  only the company logo.  That includes showing cases of product too.

She was holding a bottle.  The question is if this was done outside of Thailand.

  • Popular Post

Very clever by the company, who no doubt knew exactly what they were doing and that it would generate masses of free publicity. The government jumped right in, as the company knew it would, with the 'free press' lawful requirement to blur the product fooling no-one.

yep!!

Thai laws apply in Thailand so they're going to be humbled in any attempts they make.

I think everyone is astounded by the sheer stupidity of "probing" some alcohol advertising.

Sheer idiots running this government.

Instead get ready to be slammed by the next variant.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee Thailand … Your support of Putin and Xi along with archaic laws and Immigration red tape has you on a downward slide with no return

Unless, of course, your company brews Singha, Leo, Chang et al.
