Siam Rath reported that authorities in Surat Thani in the south of Thailand were confident of tourism spending at Songkran being 631 million baht this year.

The prediction came from the Surat Thani office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, chief Nanthawan Siriphokphat.

The media reported after rains and storms battered the area.

Nanthawan said many activities were planned for the three islands at Songkran between 13th and 17th April.

She expected 54,198 visitors after she did a survey.

Of these 35,891 would be Thai and 18,307 foreigners.

The average stay in Surat would be four days.

They would all be spending 631.89 million baht.

Even more if they have an egg on their fried rice, notes ASEAN NOW.

Mrs Connda and I will spend another laid-back Songkran hanging out with the 7 dogs, 1 cat, and a bird.  Mr. Connda may actually have two or three Thai 'panther-<deleted>' brews to celebrate - "Whoopee."

And with the unseasonable coolness and rain up here in the North, I have a flower patch along the soi leading to the backyard driveway to weed and replant as well as working some ox-poop into the vegetable garden as I hope for an early Rain Season.  Of course - Maskless - as we are both quite happy leading a hermit lifestyle sans the normal celebration and visitors.

I predict minimum a 55 laugher by tonight.

(55 laughing emoticons for the OP).

"They would all be spending 631.89 million baht."

I would respect this more if she had taken each figure to 12 decimal places, not a mere 2.

More Lies from TAT.  Rich people are going to do what ?? Stay in their room  or Hotel Lobby? Safer in the Lobby   Rich people don't like Dirty streets, nasty Dogs, scam artist.  Land of Scams!

... and a million covid cases just after Songkran

Tourists.

As usual, first thought how much they will spend.

I suppose this is to be expected, especially in these difficult times, but do they all have to make it so obvious.

It's not difficult to get the wrong impression ... "just dump your funds at the airport and catch the next plane back from where you came." ????

Perhaps they would present a more attractive option if they demonstrated, and publicised, a desire to prevent tourists being ripped off from the moment they step into the first taxi away from Swampy and attended to some of the intrusive rules which range from the absurd ones surrounding the purchase of alcohol to the need to constantly report your whereabouts if you stay in other than a hotel and similar, and onto the need to carry your passport at all times. I could go on.

I half expect there to be some little guy at the airport looking each tourist up and down and assessing how much they will spend, before writing it in his notebook, which is then sent daily to the authorities.

I sometimes feel people coming out with the  numbers of people expected to arrive is more of a guess or wishful thinking ????

Or just trying to wind up people on this forum ????

Heading down to Pattaya. 2000thb if you are caught splashing any water around. Are those fines included in the spending?

631 million baht in 4 days just in Surat Thani province - WOW!

Then I saw  that old magic word :- "TAT" "!

Another prediction from T.A.T...

Yesterdays news said spending would be the lowest for a decade or more due to higher energy prices and inflation.

Amazing foresight.

If she said they expected 50-55,000 visitors of which around 30% were expected to be non-Thai it would be slightly more believable! They don't even know the basics of statistical forecasting!

I'd assume her survey souce would he hotels, airlines and ferries but with TAT it could be a few random phone calls until they came across two or three potential visitors.

Please, don`t come here, we don`t want you,

                                  pestering our country.

Just send the money that you have.

                                  Thanks in advance!

                                   Cheers!

Definitely going to be busier than the past two years.

So much construction going on the roads its going to be a long hual.
