in thailand visa exempt was reinstated from 1.06.2021, almost a year ago, for sandboxes.

Issue is more about covid restrictions, quarantine, tests.

Each country is different. Some more desperate than the others.

I don't know much about a recent tourist boom in cambodia. For many of those who entered there, their final destination is thailand. They just use cambodia for a start and will cross land borders as soon as they open.

If it's anything, it's all been quite a marketable, wishy-washy and at times illogical soap opera for some 6-7 months. 

The overthinking and rethinking of the ongoing and ever-changing schemes has certainly been profitable for particular circles, as that's the only thing that seemingly matters. 

 

Wonder if we'll ever known how this story concludes.....

I flew to the UK for a visit on the 20th March, just after all restrictions were dropped. Flying back to Thailand on the 2nd May. My timing would be spectacular if they dropped this stuff on the 1st. I got my three jabs in Thailand, so that should be enough paperwork. 

 

If they want tourists back they need to drop extra requirements and even then it is probably too late. Time to open casinos and properly legalise weed!

People want to travel – and they like to do so by plane. In Europe, the bike tour to the neighboring town was the highlight of 2021 - for 2022 it could be a little more lavish.

 

The travel industry in Europe is surprised by the high demand. Holiday flyers can hardly keep up with the booking requests. Eurowings starts on Sunday with an A380 daily from Frankfurt to Mallorca.

And even 4 flights a day would be possible, but they don't have the crews at the moment.

 

If Thailand wants this summer any slice of the european pie, they would have to lift all travel restrictions by May 1 at the latest. Mid June to late September is the big holiday season in Europe and people are booking now (April, May) for it.

With a Hesitant - Maybe - Flip Flop - Unclear- Complicated - Travelpolitics you don't get any planes full.

Why? Because I'd like to visit Thailand, I'm not vaccinated, and I don't want to have to quarantine. I thought that would have been obvious.

 

No need to get testy, I have 0.0000% worry or regret about my vaccination decision, and I have zero problem with your vaccination decision.

Probably because of the pre departure PCR test.  In my opinion, if they wanted to keep any restrictions, they should have kept that and scrapped the rest.

I’d be more than happy if they kept that and it’s the sensible approach which would be accepted by most? No fear of being scammed the other end by over amplified PCR tests or false positive antigen tests. If you’re positive, just don’t get on the plane?

Vaccine passports have been scrapped in most countries now NZ scrapped them on the 5th of April, covid is over football stadiums are back to normal and masks just about gone now, still a lot of cases in some countries but all the graphs are going down, its over, a few more months and it will be endemic, its probably that now. Nightclubs open, no limits on numbers or masks required.

test on arrival is a hard no for me. not worth the risk if I test positive and have to surrender my plans. that's the sticking point for most if not all travelers

Thailand would do best to follow their neighbor Singapore. PCR test before arrival, once vaccinated, let people be upon arrival.

Betting on May 1.  

Finally!  A common sense approach to re-invigorate tourism.I hope they don't flip flop on this as they're wont to.

If they want to generate interest for the high season at the end of the year, it would be a good idea to drop all requirements now and not flip flop the decision. That would give them several months to try and rebuild some confidence in travelers that a vacation to Thailand doesn't present an unacceptable risk

It takes just a few days:

- make the decision to drop ALL restrictions

- then publish it in the Royal Gazette

 

They operated without these restrictions for dozens of years, 

so dropping them just means: back to normal !

I don't see it happening soon. Too much cowardice. And too much money being made by certain parties. And the rest? Frankly, I don't think they care one iota. 

 

With the cases ticking up here, it would require common sense and reason, to conclude that the Thais are now the Zombies in the room, and the incoming foreigners are of little danger.

I doubt your demands will have much impact...... if you chose not to be vaccinated, up to you, but accept the consequences of your decision.

But the Thai health service have the worry if you get ill, they would prefer you didn't come at all.

Having insurance is of little value if the unvaccinated have already filled the beds.

I know they have that worry, but it is unjustified.

 

The UK Health Security Agency publish their 'vaccine surveillance report' weekly.

Until recently, every week they showed the rates of infection per 100,000 by vaccination status.

 

Every week showed the same, vaccinated people are between 300-400% more likely to get covid than non-vaccinated.

Check out the other reports prior to this month that show this table, it's always roughly the same numbers, being vaccinated increases your chances of getting covid by 300-400%

 

To be fair, being vaccinated seems to reduce the risk of dying from covid. Unvaccinated, my risk of death is 0.001%. Vaccinated, risk would be even lower, at 0.0007%. 

 

That's a 40% improvement. But considering being vaccinated makes me 400% more likely to get covid, not being vaccinated is still a good choice. 

 

Also worth considering...

 

The rate of road deaths per 100,000 in a given year in Thailand is 32.7

 

In my age group, the rate of death per 100,000 from covid if not vaccinated is 1 (see UK government data in PDF above)

 

That means I'm 3270% more likely to die in a road accident in Thailand in a given year, than I am of covid if not vaccinated.

 

And my risk of being harmed by covid vaccine side effects is 0%.

 

I'm hopeful of Thailand scrapping requirements because the entire global response to covid has been a mistake, and we need to get back to 100% normality.

Dont often disagree with you but the Thailand pass is utterly worthless right now , it simply compounds the current economic misery.

Fully vaccinated tourists will not encourage a further glut of infections , nor will they heap pressure on health services , so why discourage them ?
