BANGKOK, April 18 – The Ministry of Public Health will not declare COVID-19 an endemic disease on July 1, according to Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Mr Anutin who is also a deputy prime minister said the ministry earlier planned to officially define COVID-19 as an endemic disease on July 1 but the change would not happen as anticipated regarding the numbers of new cases and fatalities for the time being.

Therefore, the ministry would just prepare the endemic disease declaration and would make it official when the situation was promising, he said.

that's bad sign for thailand pass and covid testing on entry.

There are over 2 months to make decisions, he should not say yet.

They should follow more on international policies to covid

While no linkage is clearly stated it feels like this "Declaration of Endemicity" is tied to the current "Emergency Decree."

And my speculation is that they do not want to give up the Emergency Decree "crutch", ergo still epidemic.

Endemicity Is Meaningless

The coronavirus will be with us forever. But we still have no idea what happens next.

Endemicity promises exactly none of this. Really, the term to which we’ve pinned our post-pandemic hopes has so many definitions that it means almost nothing at all. What lies ahead is, still, a big uncertain mess, which the word endemic does far more to obscure than to clarify.

There's certainly no need to attempt to keep it out of the country - so it's definitely not about keeping covid out of Thailand, not any more - and it hasn't been about keeping it out of the country for a long time now.

I have a feeling they need to be seen to be doing something regardless of whether it makes the slightest bit of difference to the situation.

Perhaps they should protect the wider world from becoming infected inside Thailand by shutting down all the airports - that would make just as much sense as what they're doing now - ie - none, what they're doing is pure nonsense and they should stop it immediately.

Very scientific.....to peer and speculate as to what the near or distant future might provide.

Because those policies are sooo successful. See Europe. Follow South Korea yes, but the mask mandate remains.

Thailand follows China like a little boy - or it seems that way.

Honestly, this new variant varies from no symptoms to a cold as long as you're vaccinated.

Oh well.

I'm afraid Thais will become so used to being afraid of new falang....

no masks??  OMG, Thais might trust new falang in the year 2065.

Everyday I get those looks........did he come off the plane today?  Get our kids away from the falang!!!!

  • Popular Post

Of course not.  Nah.  This country will be celebrating a never-ending pandemic and mandatory mask wearing for the foreseeable future.  Why?  It keeps the commoners in line. Well, it could be worse.  It could be China.  I can keep playing this game ad-infinitum.

Not so confident about vaccination looking at high infection and death rate in the pst 7-day in the UK so much so that UK is not level 4 country in US CDC list.

Ahhh! Got it.  Right before the elections for Prime Minister.

Covid is everywhere in Thailand - so lets try and keep covid out of Thailand - is this how you would do it?

  • Popular Post

Either it's endemic or it isn't, the virus doesn't care what Anutin declares it.

I'd say it already is endemic, and they know it. Traveling around over Songkran, I got the impression that everyone knows it's everywhere - and cares very little.

Apparently you need to be a scientist to state the obvious nowadays.

"Common knowledge"

Of course not.... Endemic means no more restrictions and they have seen at Songkran what can happen..... and they don't want that.....

Everything is open and life is normal. There’s no laws to self isolate anymore either. 99% of vaccinated are getting it as a cold (I had it two weeks ago) so obviously the numbers are still high. It’s much better to be in this situation than Thailands ridiculous policies.

Little does this nimrod know we had one of his crews decoder rings & already knew this long ago

We also knew nothing would change until P&P steal another election after which Thailand will suddenly?throw open its doors once again

as the swine will need more feeding at the public trough which is getting dangerously low due to lack of income/tax revenues
