Despite some concern regarding the Covid-19 situation after the Songkran holiday, the Public Health Ministry’s plan to declare Covid-19 endemic by July still persists.

Thailand’s Public Health Ministry is still looking forward to declaring the prolonged Covid-19 as an endemic by July 1, 2022. Although it has been predicted that we could see a spike in cases and death rates after the Songkran festival, Dr Chakkarat Pitayowonganon from the Department of Disease Control states that it will take roughly two to four weeks to conclude. As of today’s prediction, the worst-case scenario can reach over 100,000 cases per day, according to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

Fortunately, we’re now seeing a decline in the number of infections, from about 30,000 PCR tests per day before Songkran to 16,000 cases at the time of writing. Dr Chakkarat mentions that he is not much worried about the after-festival situation, for the risk group is mostly working people who already received booster vaccines and are likely to develop only mild symptoms.

Please whether you declare or not, get rid of Thai pass...that is not stopping covid and not making it any better by stopping tourists...get rid of TP...keep it Pandemic or whatever status you like to

  • If you ask me, I think Thailand pretty much has lost the plot as what to declare and what to really do with this Covid, utter confusion and hopelessness....

  • Er, hang on a minute   Good to see internal communication still working well.

These buffoons can say what they please, but the fact is that the only body authorized to declare a pandemic "endemic" is the WHO, not a bunch of corrupt, inept soldiers.

Good timing, because America just ruled mask mandates unconstitutional and we no longer have to wear masks on planes, buses, etc.

You say that like the WHO is not a bunch of corrupt inept soldiers themselves.  Everything that can be politicized around this has been, and every decision is seen through a political lens now, thanks to our idiot politicians.  So no science will be used, don't worry, except as a talking point.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

What will the impact of change really be?

Agree, but you could have just stopped at 'what to do'. Cuz it's not just with Covid, but utterly confused on everything.

Sorry Thailand nobody cares.

Your in the rear view mirror of most that use to travel & vacation there

You are no longer relevant as a destination to spend quality time in

One thing many failed states like you forgot is it takes time to reinflate a economy like an accordion the same as your tourist industry will now see in the next few years.

Travelers in fact like to plan way in advance & get the best prices on tickets etc & none will wait till say late June to see if they can travel to Thailand in July

None except maybe those you prefer didn't come, The Mongers

Although they in reality have been your bread & butter most of your existence even since Vietnam war times when you were just a R&R spot for horny tired soldiers

That aside

Anyway good luck Thailand but it is said that your sorry excuse for a government/leadership is a couple tin soldiers masquerading as Prime minister+ assistants & a ex-concrete worker masquerading as a Health Minister

Guess Thailand (CCSA) will follow the guidelines of WHO. And then all kinds of Westerners come and yell out " We don't want Bill Gates' NWO, and we don't want a reset. We want more handouts from our nanny states"

And yesterday it was no.

Today it is yes.

Tomorrow will be maybe.

The hook with optimism as bait continues to be dangled swallowed and regurgitated, meanwhile the truth is out there but not here.

...whilst we are crystal ball glazing...i will predict it will be another 2 years before this virus becomes endemic, which means one case per one hundred thousand persons. So people hurry up and get Vaccinated.

I seriously fear for Thailand if they ever have a war with these incompetents in charge - good job they only harass the populace and have a job ensuing the tourists only ever dribble in to their fantastic tourism wonderland that has been devastated by their continuing madness

If they did have a war the first thing the Thai army would do would be to reverse engineer their pick-ups to have 1 forward gear and 8 reverse.

Medically they're doing quite well compared to some Western countries. And only medicine (not tourism) is Anutin's domain.

Don't think so with all the retards in government which illustrates that their mental health care is run by nutters.????

Yeah, right, run that past me again. only 140 odd in ranking in tests per million , or about 25% of  all the populace. How can you state 'doing quite well' testing only 25% of the populace ? You simply don't find what you refuse to look for !

Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, libya, rwanda, Namibia, palastine, Gabon,  Lebanon , Botswanna.............. ALL tested more per million that Thailand - you think those countries have better health care too ?

Jeez, the "flash to bang" time between flip and flop is getting ridiculous. It's only been 24 hours since I read on here A-Nut_In had said Covid WOULDN'T be declared endemic on July 1st. Someone really needs to take a close clook at the internal telephone system in the government offices coz there's a lot of people missing out on the group chats where they make these decisions. Having said that, this could all be a "Baldrick" by A-Nut-In, say the endemic status won't happen, then wait for announcement of a GE and spring back in with "I'm declaring Covid endemic!!" days before they go to the voting booths. He's not going to be happy with Pitayowonganon!

They're now flip-flopping on a daily basis, that must be a new record.

Anyway, the virus still doesn't care what it's being declared (or not). It's making its rounds all over Thailand. Endemic?

Guess they're waiting for the post - Songkran incubation period to end.

Do they really know what they want to do?? One day like this the other day hummm... no like this. Wondering who's the brain behind all this nonsens????

I thought I read the Gov declared covid an endemic months ago?  Hmm

Anyhow, what about Thailand recognizing the WORLD WIDE HUNDREDS OF SCIENTIFIC REPORTS that have ALL declared masks to be "useless" against Covid, which thank GOD and Lord Buddha is now

effectively the virtual equivalent of the flu.

And yes I know there are still deaths, BUT if someone is old or in very poor health, obese, a smoker, etc, etc than they are susceptible to dying from the common cold/diabetes'/high blood pressure, etc.

Thailand drop the mask mandate!! Let people decide for themselves! The PM said months ago there was no lawful requirement for masks to be worn.

I will "always" wear a mask in traffic on my bike, because it blocks "some" of the exhaust fumes! But in MBK/Central World/7/11s etc it's a NONSENSE !!! And hey the USA has just dropped all mask mandates,

so do what you always do, and copy them!

Your post is slightly off topic but never the less is valid and I would like to say that regarding the wearing of masks , the majority of cheap medical masks do nothing to protect the wearer . When you see mask wearers they think they are protecting themselves , naively . Often the masks have been used multiple times and probably harbour bacteria . The virus is airborne and can enter your body not only via nose and mouth but also your ears and eyes , besides settling in your hair and clothes . The entry level of masks for your personal protection is the N95 if fitted correctly . Not comfortable to wear for long periods and should be changed several times a day .
