Just in general it might be good for you to know that even before it was required by law most people were wearing masks. Most people, and especially Thais, wear the masks to protect others and themselves. They do it because they want to wear them and (mostly) not because they have to.

So if you want to be seen in a good light by Thai people I recommend you wear the mask all the time. People appreciate that.

At the moment if you went wandering around without a mask in many places in the North East you'll be told to put one on. You'll definitely get the evil eye.

 

Probably in Bangkok you might get punched if you don't despite the loosening up of the laws.

I think that is very unlikely. And for tourists in tourist areas: The locals see right away that they are tourists and we all don't have much expectations about their behavior.

Watched a Thai motor cyclist yesterday . He was wearing a helmet and a mask . I thought that was good until I realised he was texting on his phone whilst doing about 50 kph .

Just came back from a 3,500 km road trip (10 days) from Phuket to northern Thailand and many places in between. 
I'd say about 95% of Thai people were wearing masks everywhere we went in rural Thailand (we didn't hit any big cities and didn't stay in any cities bigger than Chumpon)      
But back in Phuket now, only about 70% of Thai people wearing them and about 50% of farangs. 
Just my observation.

Maybe so in Thailand but for reference for those of you who may consider a visa run/visit to Cambodia, the wearing of facemasks is no longer mandatory in public and open spaces. Masks must be worn in closed spaces. Quote:

I have stopped wearing my mask, like many of the locals and foreign travelers, but when I go out, I keep one folded up in my pocket just in case. My regular supermarket, and other businesses in Siem Reap, have now removed the temperature and hand sanitizer machines, also the requirement to wear a mask. So nice to be back to pre-Covid-19 days when one collected a trolley, entered the store without restrictions and completed one's shopping.

Well past time to drop the mask mandates everywhere. Happy to see more and more people (even Thais) not wearing them. Outside I don't wear anymore. Have one with me for a visit to a market or 7-11 or such. Walking outdoors...no more. No way. Never again. Should be optional indoors too. This government and media fueled Stupid-19 covidiocy fear-frenzy has got to end NOW. 

Well said - outdoor mask wearing is totally ridiculous - we'll all be eating these things when billions of them get into the oceans then the food chain - the environment was polluted enough without billions and billions of items of PPE getting added to all of our rubbish - I was diving around Koh Samui recently and certainly more masks than marine life

The disturbance eventually ended with the store mananger escorting the farang woman out of the store.

 

This proved to be an excellently example of “farang arrogance” and I was truly embarrassed ????.

A very similar thing happened in the beginning of the pandemic with my wife in Villa Market, Hua Hin. A big farang female was walking in the store with her mask off. My wife said politely that she had to wear the mask at any times and should not take it off. At that moment I was a few meters away from my wife. This woman started yelling at my wife how she dared to say something to her, it was up to her what she did.

I'm one of those farangs that don't like those farangs much, especially when they are showing their superior attitude towards Thai people and from where I was standing I started shouting (yes I was wrong, but this woman had it coming) at her that she was obliged to wear it in the shop and that she should go back to the country where she came from if she didn't like to comply to the local rules. And that she had no right whatsoever to speak to my wife in that arrogant way.

That woman left the store very fast with the mask on her face.

Strange world we live in where science is insignificant vs. being righteous.  As for wearing masks  where you might come withing a few meters of someone, I wear all the time.  Not sure if needed but when in Rome...

It is still difficult to run with a drenched mask but as much as I would like to take it off like some running without it, I am more concern about breaking the law and getting stare by people hence I am still wearing it while I run.
