It’s early days with the reopening of World News . We will do our best to provide News, but we currently don’t have a list, as we are under negotiations with news providers.

George, thanks for your reply but that wasn't the intent of my response to Scott's post.  My question was "who, within ASEAN NOW admin/moderators, determines what a credible source is and how is that determination made".  Another poster "Worker" asked "who rates the raters"?.  That a valid question IMO.  It reminds me of the current situation with Facebook and Twitter where so called fact checkers get to determine what is/isn't allowed to be posted.

Great news if different  opinions will be tolerated. Looking forward to the overhaul of forum rules!  Let's be fair.

George, if you're only going to allow Reuters, CNN and the BBC, it won't be much news.  It'll just be propaganda.  But, you just keep on believing "Media Matters".

Good luck with the come back I, for one, certainly missed you.

It was a gif with a Cheetah (spelling)…

I can’t find it anymore. If you find it, please PM me.

Cheers ????

They are, but we cannot be everywhere all the time. Thats why the report function is there to bring to the attention of Moderators.

I did just this morning...to a story with a inflammatory headline, that has caused many trolling and off topic posts... but as one poster suggested "depends on who posted it"

Please look at the recent posts in the News Forum, and you will find some examples of sources. We haven’t negotiated any republishing deals yet, so I can’t give you a list.

We will try to be neutral, but everybody has its own opinion. AN has no political agenda whatsoever to use any specific sources. We hunt for Top stories and Breaking news. We want to be early to report these so members can discuss issues. And have fun and banter:

Please give us a little time to settle this, and see how the feedback is. I’m only a week into this role of making AN a better place!

I think we can make a good selection, but it’s impossible to make everybody happy.

Thats the info I have for you right now.

Cheers

Might be so but not as troubled as the other new forum, that really is awful

Thanks.  I sent a comment to Support regarding the article.  Just curious if it makes a difference the article was an Op-Ed written by an Admin of this forum?

George It should be glaringly obvious from this thread alone what the problems are. if not and you genuinely want suggestions,  I suggest you open up a thread where that which cannot be discussed is allowed to be discussed (not talking anything covered by Thai law here). Confine it to this thread and and only this thread only the normal rules of normal forums apply - no threats etc. YOU WILL HAVE CLICKS BEYOND YOUR WILDEST MARKETING DREAMS to show advertisers - and that is just from those who are left. Once people that have de facto left this forum hear that there is a place where this can be addressed they will come back and cause clicks too. The rules of this forum (and other things) have to change if it is to regain it's attraction. I am no wokester but I note you are "inclusive" enough to allow a Buffalo and a Cat here and we need more like them who come here to be of service (and some others) and less like........

Why do I have to be so cryptic about something that should be openly discussable - getting it?

Err what is @mokwit saying?

How about editing your post to make it readable!

That's ridiculous. Reuters especially is highly objective and credible.

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/reuters/

LEAST BIASED

These sources have minimal bias and use very few loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes).  The reporting is factual and usually sourced.  These are the most credible media sources. See all Least Biases sources.

Overall, we rate Reuters Least Biased based on objective reporting and Very High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing of information with minimal bias and a clean fact check record.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Bias/Fact_Check

In 2018, the Columbia Journalism Review described Media Bias/Fact Check as an amateur attempt at categorizing media bias and characterized their assessments as "subjective assessments [that] leave room for human biases, or even simple inconsistencies, to creep in.

The Russians and the Chinese probably have their own versions of Mediabiasfactcheck, I don't think Reuters will score more than 2 out of 10 there ????

George, sorry I missed your response but I'm thinking we are talking about two different issues.  I understand the sources you are referring to and the required negotiating needed.  Let me try another approach to my question/concern:

Scott posted "Just to be clear, the posting of false or misleading information will not be allowed and sources that are not credible will not be permitted."

Who makes the determination what is false or misleading information will not be allowed?  Who makes the determination the sources that are not credible?

Again, I'm not referring to a member posting a link to "whatever" website but more of an opinion, and responses to other members postings, where the comments gets deleted as inflammatory or trolling.  One "hypothetical" example....go search the forum for the discovery of incriminating documents on a certain laptop.  Multiple flaming and trolling responses go unchecked yet most main stream media has confirmed it's existence....while members that post the said existence of the laptop has their post deleted, or put on the temporary restricted list (i.e Facebook jailed).  If changes are coming, then they will be welcomed by some and hated by others, but time will tell.  Good day sir.

I haven't.

I've been following this forum and criticism of the US has never been a transgression of the forum rules.   Maybe you're making up your own, imaginary, rules or you just don't know which forum you're on.

I don't understand why anyone would go to 'World News' forum to read what is basically hand picked news by AN staff (other than to allow people to post their opinion, rather than just read it)

Even more so after seeing recent Thailand news articles that include 4 news threads on masks in 3 days (such a critical newsworthy item) and the totally incorrect news article about needing a Masters to navigate immigration rules

No thanks, I'll stick to google for news not related to Thailand (would love the regional forums like Vietnam, Phillipines and Cambodia to be active but they're completely dead)

Just took a look and 9 of the top 10 news stories were about America (#9 was about nudists in Europe)

I guess there's no news in any other country, oh wait, China has now signed security agreements with Solomon Islands and Somoa, targeting a 10 pacific Island pact

No need to go to war anymore, just buy the pacific...

That's a fair point.

World means world.

For example I would like to see a topic about the consequential election in Colombia.

I'm guessing you're looking at the threads that members have most recently commented on, which rise to the top of the list... as opposed to what World News threads are actually posted day by day.

There's been a lot of interest -- and member comment -- this week on the Texas school shootings and related stuff with gun control, so those threads will get pushed to the top in terms of recent comments.

But that's not the same as the topics that actually get posted each day. For example, last night, we had one WN thread about Japan finally reopening to tourism, and another pertaining to the Russia-Ukraine war. And in recent days, there have been various threads pertaining to the UK and Europe and China as well...

We're conscious and aware in terms of needing to present a balanced and diverse range of topics/geographies.
