French Muay Thai champion mocked online for Thai language tattoo with "glaring error"

Twitter was going crazy after a French Muay Thai champion proudly showed off his Thai script tattoo with what many claimed was a glaring error. 

 

The story was picked up by international media, notes ASEAN NOW as Twitter people mocked the French hunk. 

 

One joked "Oh My Buddha!" with a shocked emoji face. 

 

Reigning Middleweight Superkombat Champion Jimmy Vienot, 26, showed his forearm with what was supposed to say Muay Thai or Thai Boxing.

 

This is written มวย ไทย but many online who can read the Thai language suggested the first letter was not ม (an M sound) but the similar ฆ - a kh sound.

 

This made the tattoo say "khuay Thai" a very rude word meaning a penis along with the word Thai.

 

Thai dick. 

 

ASEAN NOW notes that many Thais may have to do a double take on the first letter as they would be expecting an M sound. 

 

It certainly appeared suspicious! Even if the Thai word for 'dick' is usually spelled with a different 'kh' letter namely ค. 

 

If the Thai media dare to print the word it is usually like this ค_ย.

 

If you don't read Thai why not ask you Thai partner  or a friend what he or she thinks!

 

To us it looked a bit like a clumsy ม with the first loop filled in. Either way Jimmy could think about a skin graft!

 

Jimmy became only the fourth non-Thai to win the Lumpinee Stadium title in 2019 according to a report on the story in the UK's Mirror tabloid.

The top of the left side of the ม may have an extra or overly flamboyant swirl, but it looks like nit-picking to me. Maybe it is simply 'right'?

Jeeeez, how stupid would you have to be to get ink done by someone ya had a blue with previously. Unreal. Guy deserves the tat he got on his back for being a d!ck head. Damages pay out 'may' just cover the price for a cover up tat done (with a mate? watching the ink man/woman work).

Considering that all the other letters are styled perfectly and unambiguously, this looks like a deliberate act by the tattooist to me.

 

I think for many Thais who are used to reading Thai script in many different handwritings and fonts it's easy to overlook this - their brain tells them "Muay Thai" before they even notice that the first letter looks odd. So I'm not surprised that posters here have reported that their Thai partners haven't noticed.
