Russian President Vladimir Putin

Yale historian Timothy Snyder said Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to starve some countries as part of his efforts in Ukraine.

Snyder published a lengthy Twitter thread Saturday explaining how he believes Putin is using food insecurity to his advantage and called it the "latest chapter of hunger politics."

"Russia has a hunger plan. Vladimir Putin is preparing to starve much of the developing world as the next stage in his war in Europe," Snyder, a professor at Yale University and expert on authoritarianism, began, noting the importance of Ukraine's food exports to the global food supply.

The area around the Black Sea, including Ukraine and Russia, has been referred to as the "world's breadbasket" due to its fertile soil and high rates of grain production. Collectively, the two countries account for 30% of the global wheat exports while Ukraine produces about 12%.

Its a shame what has happened to Russia. It was, after glasnost, that their new President turned them away for integration and equal partnership with the west of Europe. The Russian people were so excited at the prospect or a free and bright future back then. Now look at it.

My journalist Russian friends (in Austria now) are so sad and broken hearted at the dark shroud that has been drawn over their people.

The world is becoming a darker place, it seems. And creeps like Putin are leading the way. I do feel for young Russians. Not alot of hope. Then again, the same could be said for young Thais, young Americans, etc.

Between the communist Red Terror killing off 25-30 million of their own citizens, and Putin's aggressions and oligarchy, Russia is making a strong point that it's too big for the global good. Russia's GDP is the same as Spain; if it wasn't for oil and metals, Russia would have been left behind. They were given the same gift of German scientists at the end of ww2, but all they can show for it is atomic warheads and weapons. Opportunities squandered.

The US isn't trying to break up Russia tho. One reason is their atomic warheads ending up on the black market. Another reason, the US needs a nemesis for weapons proliferation and it can't be with our trading partner, China.

As Russia won't fire on some countries let India lead a convoy of ships to get the grain. As simple as that!!!

India would never do that.

That was meant for only believers in God.

The thing about religious people I admire most is how they stick to their convictions about the primacy of morality:

"In 2011, 30 percent of white evangelicals said that "an elected official who commits an immoral act in their personal life can still behave ethically and fulfill their duties in their public and professional life." Now, 72 percent say so — a far bigger swing than other religious groups the poll studied.

White evangelicals also are less likely than they used to be to say that "strong religious beliefs" are "very important" in a presidential candidate. That share fell from 64 percent in 2011 to 49 percent this year."

"But some Biden administration officials are now privately expressing concern that rather than dissuading the Kremlin as intended, the penalties are instead exacerbating inflation, worsening food insecurity and punishing ordinary Russians more than Putin or his allies."

Good time as any for the big key principles to initiate Plan B and get to the peace table NOW and stop the killing.

I saw a piece on the news where they spoke to a farmer who wants to sell his grain to the EU.

He can't, even by road. It's very difficult.

Ukraine has banned all working age men from leaving the country.

This includes the truck drivers. Think about that for a minute or two.

Ukraine turned off all the supply lines out of their country.

Maybe that will change.

Current export restrictions right now are self inflicted

You think Ukraine is going to commit economic suicide by not allowing truck drivers to leave the country? I haven't seen any notice anywhere that Ukraine is no longer exporting goods. Unless all their truck drivers are women, I imagine that the Ukrainian govt allows male drivers of working age to transport goods in the interests of national defense and economic survival.
