Hi all, I see lots of adverts on Facebook groups etc for western food, and I have recently used britishop to order some bacon and sausages etc, food was good and very quick delivery, but is there anywhere in Khon Kaen that is selling sausages and bacon and pies etc…never seen anything advertised it always seems to be Pattaya or chiang mai, any help much appreciated

Donnas Farang Food Shop used to be good... just beside the Pullman hotel.

I think that the name might have changed recently to Khon Kaen Food Supply.

They distribute for example Koratchef and Gourmet meats products, and salami, curries, steaks etc. are just few of the items available.

Google Maps is showing Khon Kaen Food Supply as "Permanently Closed"

What a shame... maybe another victim of the COVID crisis?

Very likely, I think.

I was fortunate, this last time I had to do a brief stay in BKK...

(only needed a short time stay in a hotel near the main train station, and our usual OYO hotel was totally shuttered...)

Anyway, this nicer hotel's manager spoke pretty sound English (a joy unto itself)...

And she patiently explained WHY ALL THE WESTERN FOOD on their tiny restaurant menu was marked "unavailable"... I had never quite grasped how the farangs had just TOTALLY DISAPEARED (from BKK, no less) once the pandemic kicked into full gear. They would have just ended up throwing out the spoiled/dated Western food..

Me, I just had to stay home for 2 years... but so many Thais lost their businesses and livelihoods, entirely. ????

If you go to Boxwood restaurant they are selling cumberland sausages and bacon made by Dave, the previous owner of Blues bar. Both are the best you will find anywhere. Possibly cheese and other items too

Makro sell bacon and sausages.

King brand Cumberland sausages are in the freezer next to the frozen crab sticks.

They're really good, 240bht/Kg.

Strangely at the moment I'm not getting Britishshop ads on here but for some reason I started getting them yesterday on another site. The sight of a Cornish pasty made me really hungry.

I even found it more exciting than porn. There's a message there somewhere.

All on Mitrapap Highway:

Macro has a good selection of farang food.

Big C has the best french style cheese selection (Camembert etc) and fresh vegetables.

Tops in Central Plaza is expensive but has the best bacon (Belucky brand), fresh Ravioli, quality meat, fresh spices and vegetables and much more, but a poor cheese selection.

All I ever see on Facebook is King Kong restaurant and Pizza stories.

I don't recommend either. I went to KK one Christmas and the owner never even said hello.

The Pizza place is frequented by old farang drunks.

Went to King Kong once.

Very tatty. Looked like the kind of place you would in in Pattaya.

Again no welcome from the owner and was told that Thai food was not available until the afternoon.

Totally flooding the KK Facebook groups with spam.

I wonder if spam is on the menu.

Thanks for all the replies and help gent’s, looks like I can get my western food fix in Khon Kaen…

I buy my pies and sausages from

http://burirampieman.com

The sausages are lovely, just like supermarket ones back home - they come from prime foods in Pattaya. The pies he makes himself.

You can place and order, he puts them on the bus in the morning and pick up from KK bus station at 2.00 PM, everything is still frozen in a polystyrene box.

Bacon - make it yourself - just buy a couple of kilo of middle from Makro and follow the instructions -

I can't believe I put up with strips of pork fat from Makro for so many years. Its so cheap, even if you buy a slicer, as I have.

I have never smoked any, doesnt seem to be necessary.

Other places I tried for delivery were Farm2fork in Mukdahan which were good - the bacon smoke was a little too strong, the sausages rather rustic - but no complaints, all good gear and Sausage King in Chiang Mai, again, OK, I think Prime foods were more to my liking, but they have some good varieties like Italian which are good on pizza and chorizo which is nice on freshly baked baguette.

Too right, that Facebook group is a joke. It was taken over by some builder and you can't criticize anything he says.

Gents once again thanks for the links and the information it’s all very helpful, I have had a delivery of sausages from a company in chiang mai called the tasty hog company, prices were good and the product looks good ( I haven’t tried them yet) also got a price list from ‘Korat chef’ and I have been looking at siamburis and I have ordered from britishop sausages were good, black pudding wasn’t great pies were very good and bacon was good. I’m going to have a go at doing my own bacon as the recipe was in the links given above and pork is plentiful here so can’t be that hard to do..
