Over 20s only is a good thing . Look at the Cambodian casinos with young children running around . 

Thinking they would want proof of funds/cash ( open your wallet or be a known hi-so) in order to show you have the means to gamble and not be an onlooker . There are folk that enter Cambodian casinos with a few coins and spend all day sat in punters seats , very annoying .

To those who condemn this venture on the grounds that it will encourage gambling and make the poor poorer , they do not come into the equation because this country only rewards the rich and has been that way for some time e.g. no social security or safety net . The casinos are being set up for those who have money , not a couple of baht . 

I suppose that the 30% is on the declared profits ? I hope that the government will set up a commissioner to regulate the gambling business as is done in most Western countries .  I say bravo to the Thai government for this move to the modern world .

Think beyond a seedy border casino like the ones in Cambodia or Laos. 

 

Mix it up with high end and low end.

Pattaya is slated as the site in the Central area (from another news outlet). My guess is that it will be built on one of the many empty plots on 2nd Rd between Klang and Central Marina, but your suggestion is also a viable option.

Interesting comment and I totally agree. I am familiar with what happens in Poipet, Cambodia. At weekends (pre-Covid-19), many hundreds of cars arrived in Aranyaphratet on the Thai side of the border and were parked over the weekend in several security carparks there. The many punters, mainly Thai, then walked across into "no man's land" near Poipet to gamble at one of the Chinese operated casinos. If all this gambling was to switch to legal Thai casinos nearer the punters homes, I'm sure the Chinese would not be happy bunnies!! A similar situation could arise in Tachilek, Burma should all the passenger vans that used to line up to cross from Mae Sai are redirected to possibly more convenient casinos within Thailand. The Chinese make seriously "big" money from casinos just across the Thai border. Maybe they will operate the new Thai casinos if approved??

Legal casinos won't happen because the people behind the illegal ones would lose mountains of money. And those with that money are very powerful and influential people, and those people win. Always. The law bends to them, it doesn't punish them. Especially in a place like Thailand, as every one of us knows.

Can’t speak for US gambling sites (where the link was written), but never had a problem using VPNs with numerous Australian sites…over many years. And that includes making a number of large five-figure withdrawals into my Australian bank accounts whilst in Thailand.
