Baht strength - How long?
Measured against other currencies can be confusing in terms of sustainable living. COLA adjustments to annual income US Social Security has averaged about 2.6% over the past 20 years; it even remained stagnant (0.0%) in 2010, 2011 and 2016. Then 8.7% in 2023, 3.2% adjustment in 2024 and expected 2.56% for 2025. Compared to Thailand's lower inflation rates, US retirement in Thailand based on Social Security benefits in recent years appears generally advantageous. More so for US federal pensions based on the Civil Service Retirement System Civil that is adjusted annualy based on US Social Security COLA. To quote Alfred E. Neuman: "What, me worry?" -

3 Metre Python Causes a Stir After Bolt Ride to Pattaya Mall
Shoppers and tourists at a Pattaya shopping mall were sent into a frenzy when a massive python, measuring nearly 3 metres in length, was discovered under a car in the mall's parking lot. The scene unfolded at 16:00, when the Pattaya Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Radio Centre received an urgent call reporting the presence of the snake. The incident took place at a shopping mall on Pattaya Klang Road, in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Upon arrival, authorities found a large crowd of onlookers, both locals and tourists, gathering around the scene. The python was initially spotted coiled under the rear tire of a white Nissan sedan with Rayong plates. However, as the rescue team attempted to capture the snake it slithered away and hid beneath a green Toyota BB car from Nakhon Pathom, sending nearby bystanders running in panic. Capturing the snake proved to be no easy task, as it found its way into the car's engine compartment. Despite the team's efforts, the python remained hidden, forcing authorities to resort to using mosquito spray to drive it out. After nearly two hours of careful maneuvering, the snake, now disoriented from the spray, finally emerged from the engine, allowing the team to capture it successfully. The python was later released back into the wild. According to Mr. Mongkol Khandhapornbamrung, a 63-year-old taxi driver, the python’s arrival at the mall may have been an unexpected passenger in a Bolt ride-hailing service. He recounted that earlier, a Bolt car had dropped off passengers at the mall. As the car drove away, the python allegedly fell from the underside of the vehicle, where it then slithered under another customer’s car, sparking the commotion. Anutin Apologises, Orders Probe into Chiang Rai Governor for Neglect
On September 29, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul apologised to the public and announced an investigation into Chiang Rai Governor Phutthiphong Sirimat. The governor had left the flood-affected area to welcome Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, only to soon depart for a retirement ceremony in Bangkok. This led to widespread criticism. The controversy stems from an incident on September 24, 2024, when Anutin visited Chiang Rai to oversee flood relief efforts, but the governor was absent, citing no available flights. Anutin swiftly assigned Department of Provincial Administration Director-General Arsit Samphantharat, who is set to become the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, to step in. Further disappointment arose when, during the Prime Minister’s visit on September 27, the Chiang Rai governor appeared briefly, then left for a retirement event. Anutin criticized the governor’s actions as a failure of duty, leaving citizens to face severe flooding and landslides without adequate leadership, reported Thai Rath. Anutin declared the formation of a committee to investigate the governor’s repeated negligence, calling it an "embarrassment" to the Ministry of Interior, which should prioritize public welfare above all else. He also rebuked two deputy governors who were absent during the crisis, attending a defense course instead. Anutin concluded by assuring the public that, from October 1, 2024, the Ministry of Interior would be more unified and efficient in disaster management, with a strong focus on addressing floods. Phillip Schofield Speaks Out: "I Could Drive the Same Bus Over So Many People"
That's not a challenge for any normal person. As long as one can drink enough, the worst that can happen is that he gets a bit hungry. Hardly qualifies as "survival". Before the usual posters start, yes I have done a survival course in the jungle training area of southern Malaya, and yes I did get quite hungry. -
