Half a million in Thailand saved by Covid vaccine

Vaccine is now free, safe, widely available, and, as research clearly indicates, very beneficial in Thailand. Thai researcher believes that the government’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign has saved over 490,000 lives over the last two years. This finding is particularly relevant given the introduction of the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron, more transmissible variants.

 

According to the latest study from the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Illness Analysis at Imperial College London, international vaccination programs prevented 14.4 million fatalities from Covid-19 between December 8, 2020, and December 8, 2021. In Thailand, immunization initiatives saved around 382,600 lives over that period.

 

A research team from Mahidol University and Naresuan University led by Associate Professor Dr. Charin Modchang expanded the study and utilized the same mathematical modeling approaches to estimate the number of lives saved due to Thailand’s vaccine rollout. The study revealed that between the time the first vaccine was administered in 2021 and July 3, 2022, 490,000 lives were saved. Thus, half a million people in Thailand would have lost if the Covid vaccines had not been available.

 

Vaccines, regardless of brand, are effective and safe. The benefits of having the vaccine greatly exceed the significant health risks of this virus and the very low probability of a severe reaction to a vaccine. Dr. Modchang argued that if Thailand accelerates its vaccination pace, the fatality rate from Covid will be similar to that of seasonal flu.

 

Vaccines are frequently claimed to save lives; however, this is not entirely correct; vaccination saves lives. Vaccines are among the most effective and cost-efficient preventative strategies available. However, vaccines that are not delivered to the people for whom they are intended are ineffective. Vaccine is useless if it remains in the container. As a result, it is critical to have all work together to ensure that groups for whom immunizations are recommended receive a high level of coverage.

 

It is crucial as well to understand that vaccines do more than only protect the person who gets vaccinated. When enough people are vaccinated, vaccinated people safeguard those around them who may not be able to be vaccinated, such as toddlers. The more people in a community vaccinated and protected against COVID-19, the more difficult it is for this virus to spread and mutate. The pace of Thailand’s vaccination efforts has already saved over half a million lives. Do not end there.

 

If you have already been immunized, please obtain a booster dosage as soon as you are eligible. Covid-19 vaccines and boosters save lives without a doubt.

By  your title heading i was asuming that you saved half a million baht by covid lockdowns and staying inside in condo/ house .....????

The figure might be speculation.  But the vaccines and Covid measures do save lives. And also help prevent serious illness.  Things might have been a lot worse. 
Except of course for people that want no prevention taken because being able to hang out in a bar is top priority.

Unfortunately math modeling for covid has become another term that should be met with skepticism. It was wildly inaccurate modeling that led to media and government panic 2 1/2 years ago. 

Now this article claims some modeling that half a million saved from covid death by vaccines.

Science would dictate you show your math model and assumptions made to come up with this number. Otherwise?

The Imperial College of London researcherwho did the estimates of lives saved by COVID vaccines through the end of 2021 have published their research and methodology for all to see, estimating that vaccines saved between 14.4 and 19.8 million lives.

 

"We evaluated the impact of the first year of COVID-19 vaccination, revealing how vaccinations have more than halved the potential global death toll due to COVID-19, with an estimated 19·8 million deaths from COVID-19 averted as a result of vaccination, based on excess mortality estimates of the impact of the pandemic."

"Under-ascertainment of COVID-19 mortality is a known issue that has hindered our understanding of the pandemic.²³  In this analysis, we consequently focused on fitting to all-cause excess mortality, which provides a more complete description of the pandemic.¹⁵

 

However, even when relying on model fits based on reported COVID-19 deaths, we estimated that more than 14 million deaths were averted by COVID-19 vaccination."

Except that the saint refused to buy foreign vaccines that were far more effective in saving lives and preventing serious illness. And that he still doesn't recognize that the time for lockups is long past or should be had he authorized the purchase of more effective vaccines.

The point is... COVID vaccines have saved lives... millions of them around the world during the past year and a half....

 

And other benefits also thru avoided hospitalizations and associated medical expenses both to people who otherwise would have become ill and the governments paying/helping pay for them.

 

And although Thailand was somewhat slow in getting its COVID vaccines program off the ground, especially for expats, they finally got moving and eventually shifted more toward the higher performing Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.... 

 

I've had four shots thus far, two original doses and two boosters as someone over age 60, and I haven't paid a single baht for any of them.

Look at Nigeria less than 12% fully vaccinated yet only 3,000 related deaths in a population of 250m with less ideal sanitary conditions.
