Kid goes home with a sign stapled to his shirt - teacher is transferred and father is furious

Sanook followed up on a story about a P1 pupil at Phetchabun Kindegergarten in the north east of Thailand who was sent home on Monday with an A4 'note' to parents advising them that Tuesday was Thai Language Day and the students needed to dress up specially.

 

It was stapled to the student's shirt.

 

A parent was furious that their child was singled out like this and said that everyone was looking when he went to collect the child.

 

He felt very sorry for the child and said there were far better ways to communicate with parents than this.

 

Sanook suggested that the parents did not read a Line messages.

The director of the school Weeraphon Thika said that following the furor on Monday he had transferred the teacher concerned from a special MEP class to a regular class at another branch of the school.

 

He had also set up a committee of investigation. 

 

He said that the teacher had good intentions and was concerned that the child would not dress up like friends if the parents had not been informed. The teacher was worried that the child would be left out.

 

The sign had called for the children to wear Thai dress or other options.

 

The teacher said that a note inside the kid's bag may not be read so they stapled the A4 sheet on the child's shirt.

 

The parent said they were reasonably happy with the action taken by the school but the most important thing is that the teacher never does such a thing again, potentially embarrassing other children and parents.

Wow, why not write it on their forehead! Will they buy a new shirt? Unbelievable how some of these local teachers carry on... cutting kids' hair off etc. Lucky they didn't mess with the wrong mf's son and get a nice slap for their efforts.

The parents should be blamed, as the semester is open already for 2,5 months and still the kid can't wear the suit as the school wants... Probably the teacher mentioned it many times already and was now sick of it and did it this way.. Why punish the teacher??? If you never was a teacher at a school you don't know how stubborn students and parents are.. teach the kids of today because they are the parents of tomorrow.... and stop please to tell that the students are good.. No... the most teachers are good but the students know that they have the power because the are always protected

Follow the school rules and there is no problem..... but some people just want to do as they want and if there is a problem they shout just like you.....cut their hair if the school say so, wear the correct uniform how difficult can it be

TBH, it's hard for a parent to keep track of what uniform, daughter had 3, was to be worn what day,  It's silly period, to tell students what clothes to wear.  Uniforms are nothing but a scam & money grab.

 

Even the teachers I know hated the silliness of them having to wear different uniforms on different days.   That's the teachers themselves, not student uniforms.

 

Many families don't have the funds or the LINE access out of town, and sending the kids to a better school is sometimes a stretch on their finances.

Fascist countries are available if it's not authoritarian enough for you here.

 

Teachers in Thailand seem to have massive egos. There is no place for humiliating a child due to a parent not (or being unable to) complying with all the silly fancy dress days.

The teacher had the correct plan. Her problem was that instead of a pencil or pen she used a marker/highlighter.  Sending notes home with forgetful students is not new. Teachers have been doing it for years if not century.

The challenge here is only the size of the paper.

As to damage to uniform that only happens when it's done a lot.

Until you have taught in a Thai school you really have no idea.

 

I have been the one with the note. Seemed that anything that was not beneficial to me kept getting forgotten or lost.

My mother and grandmother were the ones to suggest it to the school.

Not all parents have access to wifi.  Anyone remember the girl that had to sit in a field to get wifi for school

It's mentioned clearly this was for a special day (Thai language day - which doesn't happen every week or month...) and therefore special clothes.

 

It doesn't say it was meaning the standard dress code for Tuesday or whatever.

 

Further is it possible the family has several kids and is struggling to feed them let alone have all the numerous uniforms for several kids?

 

And further why didn't the teacher attach the same A4 note to the shirts of all/many of the students?

That is rather contradictory .

Do you have memory problems ?

My daughter wears three different uniforms but it is for the same days each week and never changes except maybe at Christmas for a party.

As far as uniforms generally I believe it creates a sense of belonging and ensures that some kids don’t turn up in designer labels and others in shabby clothes.

Serve yourself as you like, I have a very different opinion on that. And everyone in "our" school knew that. They dared to stroke my daughter exactly 1 time 6 years ago -- after that according to her, nobody ever touched a child there again (at least until she left 3 years ago.)

 

And no, its not a Thai or culture problem. Its a problem of savages. She attends now a better school in Chiang Mai and suddenly such issues don't exist.

"LINE" is not any proper form of communication at the first place. Letter, e-mail or phone with at least 24 hours notice -- or it did not happen.

pros and cons to uniforms, thailand is culturally a country where uniforms are the norm way beyond school. interestingly there is a school in the dusit are of bamgkok that is a bit freeer thinking and uniforms are not worn, several of my friend's children go there, it's nice to see non-conformity sometimes

Each time I just think, tik tok tik tok, 2 more years until primary starts for my son, I gonna have to bleed paying for an inter school or he grows up educated like this. I would not be sure to control myself if someone did this to my son either.

About costumes, it is Thai culture or maybe military government rules?

Thai officers always must wear their costume on Monday.

Depending on many events they need to wear sometimes specific color clothes.

It can be green, yellow or what ever is demanded by top for that "special" day.

IF you dont have, you need to buy it specially for that day.

Every now and then my wife surprises me with those demands of the top.

What can i say, nothing, it is Thailand
