Thaksin Wins Case Against Revenue Department

FORMER prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra today (August 8th) won a case against the Revenue Department with the Central Tax Court ordering the revocation of assessed collection of 17 billion baht tax over the sale of Shin Corp shares, Matichon newspaper said.

 

Thaksin’s lawsuit was against the Revenue Department, Mr. Pongsak Methapipat, the department’s director-general and its representative, Mr. Prapas Sanansil, a representative of the Office of the Attorney General, and Mr. Pisit Srivaranan, a representative of the Department of Provincial Administration in his capacity as Appeal Committee member.

 

The court ruled that the issuance of summons for Mr. Panthongtae Shinawatra, Thaksin’s son, and Ms. Pintongta Shinawatra, his daughter, as Shin Corp’s representatives was unlawful because the plaintiff had to be directly assessed.

Exiled former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has won a tax case, involving the Revenue Department, after the Central Tax Court ruled that the department’s order for his two children to pay 17 billion baht in back taxes and interest, over the sale of shares in Shin Corporation to Singapore government’s Temasek Holdings Limited, was unlawful.

 

The court said that the two children, Panthongtae and Pintongtha, were just proxies of Thaksin and the department’s tax appraisal summons for both of them was unlawful, adding that the department should have served the summons directlyon Thaksin himself.

 

Thaksin’s two children bought 329 million Shin Corp’s shares, at one baht per share, from Ample Rich, an offshore company controlled by the Shinawatra family, and sold the shares to Temasek via the Stock Exchange of Thailand, at a price of 49.25 baht each, making a profit of about 16 billion baht, according to the Revenue Department’s assessment.

wait ans wait in Thailand and you will get away with everything... How is it possible that such a hugh amount of money doesn't nee dto be paid.. Reduction would be fine but no payment........ Shameful as so many people live in poverty because of these greedy wealth. And that party/family would be the next Government???  They should be banned for life, although Thailand was better when he was PM but his own growing wealth was far more better for him.

"Slippery as an eel" is an expression that always comes to mind whenever I'm reminded of him.

Thais often say that all politicians are "kee-gohng"... but Thaksin takes it to a higher level and is in a class of his own when it comes to the amounts of money involved in his crooked deals.

Shady and dishonest weapons procurement programs are a major problem here, that's for sure, but the beneficiaries are numerous and spread out, they don't enrich one man and his corrupt family to the same extent that the Shinawatras have seen their fortunes multiply since starting out as silk merchants in San Kamphaeng.

Regardless of what one might think of the elder Thaksin - pro, con, indifferent - he has managed to build a connective and promotional media insight that keeps him and his associations in the limelight........and he's still pulling strings here and there, unbeknownst to many. 

 

The likelihood [and reality] of him returning to former political glory are incredibly slim......as he's becoming to an incapable age, plus the incorrigible and sound tradition of the Thai political machine would have it. All of the return talk can be put to rest. 

 

But......cleverly enough, he [and his handlers] is slowly grooming his offspring as the next generation of Thaksinite drones. Deliberately working their way in.

He is the democratically leader of Thailand. He has more right  to be in power than the current military junta. He was an excellent  leader without the airport and RTS would not have been completed. He medical  and welfare  policies were fair and reasonable and he was no more corrupt than other Thai  leaders and less  corrupt  than subsequent uniformed  leaders. Thaksin  was a great  leader
