Moritz P. and the framed portrait of acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan which he used to stage a number of silent protests during the week in Rayong. The 35 year old told reporters on Friday that he received a visit from local police officers who checked his documentation. The German national says he was told that if he continued such activities, he ran the risk of losing his visa.

A German man living in Thailand with a Thai wife staged numerous silent protests this week in Rayong but was warned off by police officers on Thursday who visited his home. His case is similar to that of French man Yan Eric Marchal who hit the headlines in 2019 with a viral video targeting Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha. Mr Marchal, despite similar cautions and promises to discontinue his activities, remained controversial with numerous online incidents and outbursts against the government and higher authorities. He was ultimately deported and blacklisted from Thailand.

A German man, on Friday, claimed he had been given a warning by Thai police officers not to continue his silent protest activities seen this week in Rayong in which he targeted the acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan. Moritz P. told reporters that he had apologised to the officials concerned for his actions and would instead channel his political opinions into his art. Nonetheless, it is understood that the German and his Thai wife are planning to participate in this weekend’s protests against the government’s leadership being organised by Redshirt leader Jatuporn Prompan in Bangkok.

A 35-year-old German man has revealed that he was visited by the Royal Thai Police on Thursday afternoon after news broke of his silent protest against the Thai government in Rayong province.

German Displaying Anti-Prawit Photo Flees To Bangkok
TNR Staff

image.jpeg

A YOUNG German man who displayed a photo of caretaker Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan with a red cross over it at a traffic island in Mueang district of Rayong province yesterday (Sept. 1), quickly fled to Bangkok last night after police came to his house to gave a warning, Matichon newspaper said.

Mr. Moritz Pfoh, 35, whose nickname is Pumpkin, said he has been in Thailand for eight years now and has been recently living with his girlfriend at this coastal city’s Mae Ramphueng beach.

He explained that he displayed this anti-Prawit sign because he pitied Thai people as most of them, upto 90%, neither like Gen. Prawit nor Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who has been suspended by court until a ruling is handed down on this eight-year tenure, but they can’t say anything.

BUT! Thailand is not his (or my) country. We're just guests who can't vote. Our opinion is meaningless to Thais, in the same way that a non citizen Thai's opinion of German politics is meaningless to Germans.

No sympathy for him if his visa isn't extended.

That's a lot of Thai's to pity, so if so many dislike them, why don't they get out and do something about it??? ????

LOL doesn't the German protester know he's living on borrowed time if he continues?  Doesn't he know that Prawit's goons are watching him?   The German should wash his hands of such folly before he gets stuck in a different timezone!  ????????????

What an idiot..

Imagine you stay as a guest in a house hosted by a father and you go around telling all the children of your host that they should arise and get rid of the  host - all because you pity the way the host treats his children in his own household…????????????

Absolute stupidity and no respect to your host. He should just leave Thailand and bring along any children of the host if they do wish to go with him..????????…..

Playing a silly dangerous game, he might believe his silent actions are valid - but they are certainly not in his best interests.

How is he managing this?  What sort of visa does he have?  Will it be renewed?

  • Popular Post

Silly.

Holding opinions on the current political situation in the country, even sharing them amongst other expatriates is one thing; going public is another!

  • Popular Post

He's lucky he got news coverage. That's what saved him. Nothing serious would've happened to him, because everyone now knows who he is.

If nobody knew him, he would've been dealt with more severely, or quite likely, disappeared.

Me think this might be his last stay in this country, Thailand has it's own idiots, not looking for an outside ones, Yes, Thailand is not perfect by far, but let's leave it to the Thais to manage their own affairs...

The fact of the matter is there is not free speech in Thailand.  Telling the truth can get you into trouble, prison time, or worse.

If his opinion is meaningless to Thais, why are the authorities bothering him? Their actions appear to contradict your assertion.
