According to Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol General Roi Ingkhapairoj, Thai police are being ordered to no longer give nationality information of foreigners arrested for alleged crimes in Thailand to the media.

The order was issued late last night, Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2022, to all provincial police bureaus in Thailand.

According to Roi, the order is after “requests” made by unidentified countries’ ambassadors who felt reports of their citizens allegedly committing crimes hurt what they called the positive image of their respective countries.

Now, what government(s) would be worried about that, and also have the political influence? I bet that one (of them) is somewhere north of Thailand. - Weren't there a number of news items in Thailand

Any guesses as to which countries are not happy when their citizens are reported as suspects in crimes 555.

We are all getting tarred with the one brush now.

Well this is another step up in responsible reporting, since they stopped reporting the colour of underwear perps were wearing at every arrest.

So (in a xenophobic country), they will identifying them by the color of their skin…Yellow, black or white? ????

What about pointing? Will that remain? Very necessary.

I don't think that's the angle at all. It's a sensible measure to prevent automatic bias by locals and others, based solely on nationality, I think it's a good thing.

Would be about time. But the Thais aren't the only, in Switzerland the media did it systematically.

What if it' s people from a country north of Thailand who are topping the charts for most wanted?

Just like in the US when a crime was reported they can no longer use the color of the criminal's skin in their news report.

Now..... "he's wearing blue jeans and a white tee-shirt"

Before... a black male 6'2" approx 200 pounds wearing blue jeans and a white tee-shirt.

Which announcement would make the person easier to identify?

Racial bias and prejudice has no place in any culture, regardless of the races involved.

Which announcement is more likely to lead to bias and prejudice against innocent people?

Which only refers to a white westerner.

I thought the Embassies are not allowed to comment or act on internal affairs of Thailand....

That's a weak argument. If you are a black male, 200 pounds, wearing jeans and a white tee-shirt and are running from the scene of a crime there is an incredibly strong chance you are who the authorities are looking for.

I don't think 'locals' whoever they are will be the least bit interested or biased as to where people come from, especially where white people come from, as we all look the same.

Your 'not' referring to China by any chance?

Maybe, but then there's the "others" part. You can't tell me that many expats aren't biased against certain nationalities when they read the news and see a crime has been committed and then say, "no surprise there" or "again". That sort of thing is contagious, dangerously so.

Let's face it.

It is incrimination/discrimination.

Suppose it will apply to thais as well?

We wait to see.
