The Metropolitan Police took the Thai wife of Chinese businessman Chaiyanat Kornchayanant, aka “Tuhao”, into custody yesterday (Saturday), on charges of money laundering.

Another Thai woman, “Patcharin”, who is suspected of being Kornchayanant’s business partner, was also taken into custody in connection with “grey” businesses, allegedly involving drug trafficking, money laundering and transnational criminal activities.

Police apprehended Kornchayanant’s wife, who is a police officer, and his business partner after the Bangkok South Criminal Court issued warrants for their arrests, based on a request from Yan Nawa police.

This is how it is done:

  • It is done through marrying a Police Colonel, not Gogo Bar girls.

The whole thing smells very fishy to me. Why don’t  just say Top officials got paid huge brown envelopes full of money to let the Chinese do whatever they want to do.TIT

Thai wife of alleged Chinese triad leader arrested on money laundering charges

By Peter Roche

The police colonel wife of an alleged Chinese crime boss has been arrested in Bangkok on money laundering charges. Police Colonel Wattanaree Kornchayanant, superintendent of the foreign affairs division, is married to Chaiyanat “Tuhao” Kornchayanant, an alleged Chinese triad leader (who also has Thai citizenship).

According to a Nation Thailand report, she was arrested when officers swooped on a Bangkok condominium. Also arrested were 6 alleged accomplices. It’s understood all the suspects are in custody at the Metropolitan Police Bureau, where they will be interrogated as part of an investigation led by Noppasin Poolsawat.

The arrested police colonel is the niece of Pracha Promnok, who is a former National Police Chief and served as deputy minister in Yingluck Shinawatra’s administration. The authorities say they plan to arrest a further 15 suspects, Thai and Chinese, who they believe are involved in the case.

“The key suspect is Tuhao’s grandson who has reportedly left Thailand.”

Chaiyanat himself surrendered to police on November 23 and remains in custody, although it’s understood he continues to deny all charges. The Chinese national acquired Thai citizenship through his marriage to Wattanaree. He is accused of leading a Chinese triad gang involved in drugs and other crimes in Thailand.

The investigation has spread across the country, with police raiding properties and premises in Bangkok and a number of other provinces where Chaiyanat’s network is believed to have been operating. Over 100 Chinese nationals have been arrested and around 27 immigration officers are accused of helping Chinese triads to remain in the kingdom illegally.

Among the properties raided are 50 luxury houses in Bangkok, 8 businesses in Phuket, and a non-profit foundation in Chiang Mai. The authorities have also confiscated assets worth over 3 billion baht.

Wait wait. Just hold it right there. The police have just been given instructions not to name the countries of foreign miscreants.  So readers just please mentally put a line through the first word of the topic.

This is how they make their bacon, the bigger the bust, the bigger the split.

From what I understand, you fark with the Triads, they have long reaching arms and will come looking for those in uniform stirring up the bees nest.

"The authorities have also confiscated assets worth over 3 billion baht." That's going to be a hell of a New Year's party

They can't beat the money out of them anymore. So they dig up old/trumped up charges in order to get the money.

The RTP corruption never ends, every day of every week there are stories involving dirty cops. The wife will be one player amongst other RTP involved in facilitating the money laundering. The Chinese crim is cleaner than the RTP.

Ah ha ... there we go. The deflection starts to a conveniently "left Thailand" key suspect.

I thought the RTP said they were not going to divulge the nationality of criminals stopped by police ?

That lasted all of 5 minutes.

"Tuhao" in Chinese means an uncouth rich man.

Thai names often have other meanings in English also. Turdsack and Titiporn spring to mind.

Titiporn apparently means ' flame of the forest flower ' in Thai but something else in English.

Best not delve too deep into Turdsack.

Makes me wonder what the 8 businesses on Phuket are . Last March I heard that people were talking . Lots of bad ones there.

What happened were they looking into this case then arrest the wife.If the chinese triad connection is true and worried I,am sure the police will have bigger problems soon.I know one thing the thai mafia or chinese triads know what is going on and you don,t get involved in they business ever
