Perpetual construction for water drains on Soi 15 (Soi Buakhao)

Soi 15 runs between Second Road and Soi Buakhao, behind "Avenue."  Construction to put in new six foot diameter piping and junction boxes has been going on since before Thanksgiving (November 2022).  Virtually no work has been done since before Christmas with about half the Soi finished, about a quarter of it in dirt/dust/mud with iron plates all over.  The part from Soi Buakhao isn't touched yet.

The dirt and dust is astounding, turning to mud and puddles when it rains or when local businesses throw water on the Soi to try to keep the dust down.  Traffic can be held up for a long time.  583051252_Soi15.thumb.jpg.f1bde353ec397bbad68e24dbce54e42d.jpg

Anyone know the story?

I know, TIT, but geez....................

They like to take their time to make sure it is done correctly.

This had got to be a candidate for "Post of the Year".

NB. I realise you are taking the P.

Pattaya 2nd road is the same, nothing going on apart from big traffic. Where's the mayor? maybe he can pay for it to be finished. I suspect it's come to a grinding halt due to legal stuff

Same going with Thepprasit. It looked like it was about to completed, put the final asphalt layer down on one lane, then stopped.  Over half of Thepprasit is still concrete with the raised drainage gratings.  No work being done at all.

six foot diameter piping and junction boxes”

Six feet diameter pipes! are they expecting rain anytime soon?

This all seems like the promenade in Pattaya where they continue to lay pavers onto sand and wonder why it gets washed away every few years, or the wooden boardwalks installed a couple of years ago and guess what, they’ve rotted away and need replacing.

They need to employ engineers who are at least aware of how erosion works.

Maybe funds have run out. When is the financial year in Thailand?

Not really.... this project has been going on for a long time... starting at the second Rd end probably 18 months or 2 years or so ago, down in front of the Mercure Hotel, and a right bloody mess on the end at the back of The Avenue.... some motorcycles tumbled into the large holes about 8 months back... but the project was slowly winding it's way towards soi Buakhao making businesses bankrupt and covering diners food in dust at the Hideaway.. putting MP girls (and in betweens) out of work. Then about 4-5 months ago, some construction vehicle lumbering around, hit the electrical cables and started a fire that damaged parked cars, Work got suspended... and here we are in one of those Thai construction limbos!

Thanks for the insight.  Covid likely did less damage to the local businesses and neighborhood than this travesty.

Is Civil Engineering one of those professions reserved for Thais only?

Based on posting nothing has changed.  The new mayor blew a lot of smoke man of the people wears a T-Shirt.  Noww he is getting the hang of think sit back relax collect your money.

The fLoosing  if theyare consistent putting in  bigger drains just keep the water below surface instead of above until hit drains into the ocean.

I reported on this a few months ago.  It looked like a war zone then.  Bars like Koranos had no chance of any customers.

Given Soi Pothole and Soi Honey are notorious for flooding. if they decide to do the same in these soi, then many businesses on these soi will be finished.

2nd Road currently has the best beach in Chonburi.  The sand is so fine from being driven over so much that it's better than the sand on Pattaya Beach.  :cheesy:
