Taiwanese actress hits back at RTP - Thailand's great but your "unclean" police are NOT - tells them to "stop talking trash"

The Taiwanese actress at the center of claims that she and her friends were extorted out of 27,000 baht in a nighttime shakedown at the hands of the Thai police in Huay Khwang, Bangkok, has hit back at suggestions that she was somehow in the wrong.

 

In a feisty post on Instagram Story in which she indicated she had already spoken to "Interpol", the celebrity known as Charlene An in English told the RTP to "stop talking trash".

 

She claimed they are having a go at her in order to appear innocent and hide their wrong-doing.

 

This followed comments by a spokesman after her initial claims about the extortion on January 4th, the day before she returned home, reported Daily News.

 

The spokesman tried to excuse the RTP by making claims about e-cigarettes and a belligerent group of tourists. 

 

Their visas' validity had been questioned also despite them being totally above board.

 

Ms An said she wasn't drunk at all in a message in Chinese to her fans. 

 

"I want to tell everyone after talking to Interpol about the unclean Thai police.

 

"They are attempting to use me in an effort to appear innocent themselves because it goes against their interests".

 

She had a message for Thailand's 'finest':

 

"STOP TALKING TRASH!"

 

She went into a few further details about the night in question when she said all lanes on the road were blocked off at the 1 am checkpoint. 

 

There were more than seven cops and she said she clearly remembers the officer who extorted her.

 

She wondered why she was singled out.

 

She said that the RTP should check CCTV, stop talking nonsense, stop trying to target her and stop fixing people up.

 

She spoke of her intense irritation not just of the incident itself but what has happened since. 

 

She signed off with conciliatory words for Thailand but a final broadside against its police:

 

"Thailand is a lovely place with so many great attractions - but their police are not one of them".

 

ASEAN NOW notes that it appears the RTP have been caught massively with their trousers down.

 

Increasingly in the age of the internet and social media spotlight they have shown their ineptness.

 

They have been revealed for what their critics say they are.

 

They say they are little more than a mafia organization in uniform and a disgrace to the country. 

 

The RTP are already facing huge trouble that has led to their overseer Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha calling for those responsible to be held to account.

 

This involves the damning clip of preferential treatment shown to a Chinese tourist who was fast-tracked through airport immigration for money then taken to Pattaya in a motorcade. 

 

That has been going on for a decade according to reports.

 

This latest mess for Thai tourism caused by the RTP shows that drastic action is needed to rein them in before further damage is down.

 

And on this occasion in the dark of a lonely New Year night in a Bangkok suburb, they absolutely picked on the wrong person.

I read a report that CCTV had been checked and she was not taken from the Taxi.

So all story about vaping equipment and even about vaping by her in a taxi, bag and body search, as well as all group being drunk, was made up by police spokesman. 
Looks, like they make up stories as they move along. Each mass media statement is different and contradictory to the previous one. 

She was singled out and extorted for not having a proper visa, because police were not familiar with visa on arrival, which is probable not common but perfectly legitimate. 
 

Her revelations surely will be shared on chinese mainland social media, because they share the same language 

If somehow interpol is involved, as she claims, that would give more credibility to her story. Interpol cant do anything in such trivial cases, but fact she talked to them will undermine thai police and possibly will force Prayuth to take a stronger stance in that case (the general election is coming and the general want"s to be somewhere at the top), so he must be seen as doing something good now

I suspect she was not so feisty while being subjected to her ordeal.... possibly fearful. The arrogance of the police is what I get a sense of.. they believe they can get away with anything.... this New Years shakedown of foreigners  being a regular effort!

She claims all group was held at police station for 2h and she was forced to apologise to police on her knees. 
She was taken to the side room where she was asked to hand her money, which she had on her. That was outside cctv, which are in the reception area of police station. 
As she and her friends were trying to record this incident on their mobiles, they were stopped doing so and their videos were deleted. That is illegal by police to do so, but happens all around the world. Now police have to come up with their cctv, they have plenty cameras everywhere. So far they have refused to make them public, so that makes them suspects

RTP is rotten from the top to the bottom  cops on the beat. Just auditing their unusual wealth will be sufficient to launch an investigation. They not even bother to hide their wealth and flaunt them with blatant display of expensive houses and cars. They know no one can touch them. At worst, they just get transferred to inactive posting as punishment. Still waiting for Prayut to step in and make big reform announcement. Doubt he will as he need RTP to protect him from student activists.

At least this incident took the spotlight off the Chinese VVIP Police Escort "misunderstanding".

 

 

The RTP need to provide guidance to tourists re: carrying passports, required/not required, and why traffic stops of taxis require passengers to be subjected to searches, and how tourists should behave when stopped. Optionally include a graft chart detailing the charge and the associated "fee". And a guide to nearby ATMs would be helpful.

 

The RTP/DSI/Branch 191 allegedly extorted 20 million baht to free some eleven Chinese nationals during the Nairu Consul raid, so extortion seems to be SOP for the RTP.

Why couldn't she retrieve the deleted vids.? I have heard its possible up to 3days after. After all I'm guessing they would have the best phones.

They have to be uploaded to the cloud first. People do it as a back up. 
But she and her friends didnt have time to do so, they were forced on the spot.

RTP cannot issue a red notice, only Interpol can and they would need a reason, such as her being found guilty of a crime.

What was her supposed crime?  Telling the RTP where to get off with their road block?  She comes from a free country where the police behave correctly and she made the mistake of expecting Thailand o be the same

I politely disagree with that. 

 

I'll go out on a limb and say the vast majority of tourists in Thailand are on visa exempt.   Visa on arrival currently 45 days, why would regular tourists bother with a formal visa.

You need to read the BP today and see what the CCTV does show, it looks fairly conclusive in support of the BiB

Visa on arrival and Visa exempt are two different things.

Taiwanese do not get visa exempt, they have to apply for visa on arrival.

Edit to add: Visa on arrival is normally 15 days.
