A German man and his young daughter had a lucky escape after fire quickly spread through their home in Cha Am on Friday morning.

Officials said a cigarette butt that wasn’t properly disposed of caused the fire at the three storey property located close to Phanthurat Forest Park in Khao Yai District.

The fire broke out in a bedroom on the second floor before spreading to an adjacent wardrobe and bathroom, officials said.

Upon inspection of the bedroom, it was found that all furniture, such as the TV, bed, wardrobe, and clothes, were damaged by the fire, causing a loss of more than 50,000 baht.

Isn't Ch-am and the Phanthurat park like 100+ kilometers away from Khao Yai?

Hope he had insurance for the dwelling and property.

Good luck with that. Insurance would not pay one baht in this case.

It would entirely depend upon the wording and in most cases of it was not a deliberate or reckless act insurance would cover this loss.

I am surprised that the floor caught fire when the cigarette fell from the ash tray.

Still you never know, are tiles and concrete slabs flammable here in Thailand?

Foreign Scofflaw;

Since 20 Aug 2019 there's a law prohibiting smoking at home according to the 2019 Family Development and Protection Act and it was published in the Royal Gazette.

(better?)

Why not? It was accidental.

Vinyl floors are often used on the upper floors.

Ahh the joys of smoking;

Setting fire to your home, blood pressure, heart disease, wrinkly leathery skin, a whole raft of fatal cancers, the foulest breath, stinking up enclosed spaces you frequent, and those you pass through (like Linus shedding his dirt as he went about), gum diseases, yellow diseased teeth, passing on the cancerous ingredients via passive smoking exchange.

What a joy! ????

You forgot erectile dysfunction...
