Putin says Russia to station nuclear weapons in Belarus for first time since 1990s

Russia will station tactical nuclear weapons in neighbouring Belarus, marking the first time since the mid-1990s that Moscow will have based such arms outside the country.

President Vladimir Putin made the announcement on Saturday at a time of growing tensions with the West over the Ukraine war and as some Russian commentators speculate about possible nuclear strikes.

"Tactical" nuclear weapons refer to those used for specific gains in the battlefield rather than those with the capacity to wipe out cities.

Oh man this is waaaaay outta control now. I know it will hurt, but wouldn't it be a good idea for the dems to bring Trump onboard and negotiate with Putin before we all perish? He is about the only guy that has Putin measured up properly and able to deal with him.

This is where continued escalation takes us.    Are there any responsible adult leaders left in the Western world that are ready to stand up and start the call for de-escalation and peace talks?  Yes, this will mean looking a bit less virtuous, and yes other, more virtuous leaders will not be publicly happy, but secretly they will be relieved that someone bolder than them has said it.   The proles will not be happy but they will get over it and there will always be another war somewhere in the world they can get behind (on the side of what the media tells them are the good guys of course) and use the "good guys" flag on their Twitter bios in place of the Ukraine one.

You mean "roll over"!

Just because Putin says he will do it does not mean it has to happen.  It could just be his usual sabre rattling (I hope).

I don't think 2 nut jobs will achieve anything....................

I feel a bit sorry for Belarusian folk, having a wannabe leader..............????

Putin doesn't want to start using the nukes, he wants a third party to do his dirty work. This invasion is going way too far and must end.

Please share with us any evidence that Trump was able to deal with Putin effectively? That he didn't even allow any advisors with him when he spoke with Putin in Finland? That he sided with Putin over the U.S. intelligence in Finland"? That he afterwards retracted that comment? That he violated the law by refusing for months to ship armaments to Ukraine? The he defended Russia's invasion of Crimea? What negotiating did Trump ever do with Putin?

Perhaps you are just referring to people without a moral compass like Trump brokering a peace deal but then he is not a responsible adult leader.

Who did you have in mind then?

Trump doesn't negotiate with Putin, he obeys Putin.

The west should consider "storing" some nukes in Ukraine to replace those that were given up in the Budapest agreement in the 90's. Ukraine had a huge supply of nukes left over from USSR days. They foolishly accepted Russian promise to respect Ukraine's borders in exchange for going nukeless.... should have at least kept 2 or 3....

Do you realize the "West" has stored enough nukes to end the world many times over in the territories of its Euro allies for decades?

Tell that to Putin and the Russians then.

They started this war and they are the ones escalating it.

Belarus is going the right way to annex itself from Europe and many other nations.

Maybe they should consider which is the best option, side with the west or Phutin.

Yes, of course.

But do you realize that it is Putin who is threatening to use nukes against Ukraine?

Just checking

Please share with us why you think that polices that other nations take, particularly major nations, are dependent on the stances of the US or who is President? Do you believe that events adverse to what is deemed the interest of the US only happen because of what the US does or doesn't do? I would advise you to stop worshipping at the altar of absolute American power. It's a delusionary religion.

And you still have no answer for my questions about why you believe that if Trump were President, Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine. When did Trump ever demonstrate toughness in standing up to Putin? On the contrary, he illegally denied weaponry to Ukraine for months while civil war rages in the Donbas despite their entreaties.

This post has to be a "windup" and so far it has been the best laugh of the day, however I'm sure there are other unfortunates out there who may think the same way?

I agree it would be "the best laugh of the day" if the poster meant it as such!.

Unfortunately there are still deranged people, like the poster and his ilk, who actually believe that dangerous rhetoric!

Off topic political troll post has been removed also a reply to it
