Goat Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 why are these stories always British? Something about their culture that makes them inept on two wheels and unable to fund their own medical bills. I will donate $USD500 again but these people really need to be educated better. 1 2 2
Popular Post Sheryl Posted April 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 4, 2023 We see these inflated costs cited for medevac sll the yime. Usually refers to quote from private company for an sir smbulance. Can be done on commercial aircraft. You buy out a full row in business class and pay for the seats to be removed to fit a stretcher. Medical attendant (usually a nurse) is required but it is sometimes possible to gind one willing to do it just for the airfare. Still not cheap by any means bur about 1/4 - 1/3 the amount mentioned. Re the insurance if there is no proof he was not wearing a helmet family should appeal to the Ombudsman. 6

As a bonus, Thailand probably has far more experience with motorcycle head injuries than the UK. However as insurance co is clsiming he was not wearing helmet they will probably not cover medical care here either. 4
wensiensheng Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 The head injury is more than suggestive that a helmet wasn’t worn. Just as the insurance company concluded. 2

Add to that the costs of visas for the medics and air crew, fuel costs, landing fees, parking fees, the existing hospital costs, the specialist ambulance and crew at each end to move him and the costs mount up considerably and quickly. Yet as so many people do, he possibly didn't read the very small print specifying the conditions that would have given him the extra cover for a relatively low price. This brings him to where he is now. the big question I have is where are they getting the price UK or Thailand? There is not need for visas for the flight crew or medical staff as it would be a turnaround flight. There are companies that specalize in this. my question though is why do they not know if he had a helmet on. If he was wearing one it should have been on his head or at least at the accident scene. The other thing that of course, the Brit newspaper does not cover is the blood alcohol content. I feel sorry for him and his family but hae a hard time understanding why he was on a bike looking for food in the middle of the night. It is also interesting that nothing was mentioned in the Thai news about his accident or are they that common now that they are not reported. 3

Popular Post phetpeter Posted April 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 4, 2023 Simple! where is his crash hemlet, was it at the scene of the accident? if so get a medic who attended to swear a statement that they removed it at the scene. Job done, insurer pays, small gift to medic. 1 2

Popular Post phetpeter Posted April 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 4, 2023 Hmm! looking at the photo, not a serious facture, no surgey, head on pillow, slight grin on face. just red card him and he can fly home. and I hope he hasn,t damaged the MOPED, 'cuse they are collectable and rare nowadays. most from the 70's and 80's. 1 3
