webfact Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Daily News Thai Caption: A new role Daily News reported that Thai badminton ace Ratchanok Intanon, 28, had fulfilled a dream to become a member of the RTP. She is now lieutenant sergeant major. But still known as May to most. The current world number 8 and still Thai number one from Yasothon in the northeast, was on Facebook with the good news. Picture: Daily News She said that when she was younger she considered joining the police but along came badminton with its responsibilities and tournaments meaning that a police career was put on hold. This has now changed and the time is right to take on a new role that will lead to coaching at the RTP. She hopes to inspire police through their clubs and associations to take up badminton and produce future champions. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-04-05 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. kingstonkid Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 This is a PR move. Most of the Thais probably will not know the difference or care. Also I doubt she needs the job or the money. 1

radiochaser Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 My BIL was a Royal Thai Police Sargent. He was a badminton player for the Police team. From what I understand, he made it to the top badminton team of Thailand ...
mikebell Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 I thought women were denied status in the RTP? Aren't they banned from applying to certain colleges? 1

Her prize money to date exceeds US$1 million, sponsorship estimated at a further US$2-3 million. The sponsorship / promotional payments are likely to continue a few years yet. Good luck to her. She's been inspirational to many a young person for over ten years. 1

Deserves to do well. Some 35 odd years ago , Thai friends introduced me to badminton which until then I had underrated as a very soft option to tennis. Completely wrong. The slightly slower speed puts every point up for grabs and long exhausting rallies are common even for beginners.. Used to play after work from 9.30 pm until 10.30 with a friend. Totally exhausted , back to my place for a bong and watch a rented video with some munchies until about 1 am. Slept like a log until up for work next day.
