Popular Post georgegeorgia Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 (edited) This is mainly aimed at retired guys over 65, or even newly retired expats to Asia . So most of us will die at around 78-83 yo said the financial planner at the bank. So I wondered now many of you are in your 70's , are you still making bucket lists for the next 10 years you have left ? Are there any of you who are cramming things in ,travelling around the world , doing things you never done , or you just content retiring in Asia somewhere and sitting at home ? So if your say 75yo time is limited and I don't say that in a morbid way ,but tell me now it's a downhill run are you trying to go out and do more ? Why hoard your money at that age ,go out and spend it ,don't you think so instead of hoarding it I mean a lot of people "give up " at that age ,I was sitting I a park yesterday in the sun , opposite was a nursing home and I seen residents/patients sitting on their balconies,I thought geez that guy looks only in his 70's looks like they have gave up ready to die I never forget working with another Wardsman ( Pommy Bob ) in a major hospital who got into trouble for telling a millionaire elderly cancer patient to " go to the Phillipines mate & have a bloody good time whilst you got the chance mate ! So time is limited, don't deny it ,be a realist , most of the "cut off " dates are around 83,if you get past that you are doing well. So back to my original question, what have you got planned until your 83? Edited April 9, 2023 by georgegeorgia 1 3 5 1 3

Popular Post OneMoreFarang Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 I think enjoying quiet life is just fine. One doesn't have to travel a lot or go to as many bars as possible to enjoy life. I am not yet that old and now I enjoy coffee with a friend. And afternoon teatime with another friend. And maybe on some days a few drinks with people who I like to see. I don't travel and discover the world. I am happy where I am. What's the point of being just another tourist looking at the pyramids and buying overpriced souvenirs made in China? It's up to each individual what they like. 16 1 1 14 2
Popular Post FolkGuitar Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 At 76, I've already completed all most all of my original dreams. I was fortunate to be able to live them already. The only one left is 'sky diving' and these old knees won't support that now. It's one of the reasons we moved to Chiang Mai... a place that doesn't give us cause to want to be anywhere else! Other people's Bucket List brings them right here. We're quite happy right here right now. No longer any particular desire to go somewhere else. A nice motorcycle ride in the mountains is more than enough to re-energize us. 9 1 2 3 1

Popular Post GinBoy2 Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 (edited) I kinda agree with @OneMoreFarang I travelled a lot for work, I've lived in multiple countries and spent more time away from home that I care to think about. I tried full time retirement, that didn't work for me, so I went back to work. But, I don't like to be away from home anymore. I have to go to Atlanta next week for a training course, and I hate it. I'm happy being at home with Mrs G and the cats, don't need much more nowadays Edited April 9, 2023 by GinBoy2 5 5
Popular Post KhunLA Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 68, and 69 in Dec, so sort of knocking on 70s ???? Yea ... I'm bored. Think you're being optimistic with the 78-83 stat. I'll be happy with 75. Checked most things off my bucket list, activities. Destinations don't interest me that much, as can't think of any, worth the hassle of air travel. A bit traveled out, since working for airlines, which made traveling easy & cheap. Alaska (or elsewhere) & aurora borealis would be cool to see. Really can't think of anything else. Quite content just chillin' in TH, but not sitting at home, though comfy, need to see different scenery, weekly, monthly. Drove down to Ban Krut restaurant/coffee shop, 63 kms away, just for the hell of it yesterday. Logged 138 kms yesterday, my morning local 12 kms, and then BK munch & peek at the surf. Very nice green curry & roti ???? Unless we hit the PowerBall lottery, no plans on travel outside of TH. Barring that, just waiting on rainy season to kick in, so we can cruise around and check out the whole country again ???? 4 1

They got parachutes where you land standing up while taking as step or 2. Highly recommend it, it was really cool floating down. Once was enough though. 1
Popular Post CharlieH Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 Call me selfish but I never understood the ones who worked all their life amassed a reasonable sum and then end up giving it to someone else !!! Sod that ! I hope I die flat broke (and the last cheque bounces ! Although aint seen one of them for 25yrs) And the credit card was maxed out !.???? I suppose its all about timing really as you just never know what that "use by" date is. 8 1 4 4

Popular Post HuskerDo2 Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 Interesting thought. I, like a few others here, have travelled a lot. 15 different countries. Not much interested in travelling any more. I'm content in life. Retired at 59 after working 49 years. Yes, I started at age 10 with a paper route and never stopped until I did. Had a very successful career in I.T. but one day I walked into the office and just told myself enough was enough. Turned in my resignation and since I was in a very sensitive job they chose to let me walk that day and paid me for the next 3 months. Best decision I ever made but after working for 49 years I wanted to relax. I never get bored. Never think about returning to the workforce. Life is good. I buy whatever I want and still only spend 2/3 of my income. I cut my siblings off years ago as they asked for money too often. These days I give to a few charities near where I live. I see first hand how much it helps them. My only desire for travel is to Thailand and the Philippines each year. I have good friends in both places. My health is good and I expect to be able to make those trips for many many years into the future. If I had known my life would be this good at this age when I was younger I would have been ecstatic as I am today. 6 4

"I never understood the ones who worked all their life amassed a reasonable sum and then end up giving it to someone else".... well Charlie, the intent was never to amass too much only to give it away. Instead, in my case, I never knew how much I'd need when I got to this point in life or the lifestyle I'd want. I saved with only me in mind and not charities. Now that I am where I am in life I'm very comfortable and it gives me great pleasure to make others lives comfortable too even if it's just a little more comfortable for them. 3 6

Dan747 Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 It depends on your mindset, my brain still works at 18 years old, but my age of my 75 year ole body at times does not agree. I spent 6 months in the USA Hubing out of Orlando driving an RV throughout North America and the other in Thailand Hubing out of our house in Ubon where we also travel. Family's genes are pretty good and 83 is out of the question. I'll be pushing my life into the 90's looking at 100. I am "LUCKY and BLESSED!" Happy Travels and GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! PS: georgegeorgia you need an "Attitude Check and should be a little more Positive!" 1 1 1 1

Popular Post samuttodd Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 I am only 54ish and I can see the main limiting factor as being my physical health. Lets face it, If it hurts to get up and be active, you will most likely sit around alot. I try to get out and paddle the kayak for an hour or two each day and walk to the night market a few times a week. I like to be at home and even when we go on a trip somewhere and stay in a nice place, I am still so glad to be home. We are lucky, as My wife has 3 sisters that she is very close to and they all live next door, so that is her entire social circle. I am pretty much a loner here in the LOS. Not complaining, it is just that way for me. 2 2 2

Also, sky diving, white water rafting down the Zambezi, bungy jumping by Victoria Falls, photo safaris in four different African countries and a few other silly things. When my lovely wife died, I went back to the UK to hold a memorial service for her family. I showed them that I had taken her to 42 different countries. We were married in Seychelles back in '89. I have been to more countries - mostly on business. I am more than happy here on a tropical island where I still work (72 next week). My one regret in life - wifey died before me. ???? She was only 55. 6 3 1

I enjoyed my working life and achieved a fellowship in UK construction roofing industry. Heath & Safety choked the industry also PC and that's when I decided to get out. Will life get better when your older, for me it has I would say ???? as for capabilities well that's not just down to reality it's a fact of life. For me it's how you approach things and making sure you take care of yourself more so. My mind stays much the same but in the words of Clint Eastwood I have to get to know my limitations. ???? 1 1
