Police on Friday night and into Saturday morning conducted their investigations at the house after the water pump was shut down and the dead man’s body and that of his beloved dog were removed from the swimming pool. It is understood that the man was electrocuted when an old water pump short-circuited and electrified the water in the family’s swimming pool.

Wife was shocked after she returned from Songkran celebrations in the late evening before nightfall to find her husband floating face down in the pool. She told police that the old water pump, which was still running, had been known to short circuit before as it appears the man and his dog were both electrocuted.

A shocked Thai wife in Udon Thani told of her heartbreak and distress on Friday after she returned from Songkran celebrations to find her 61-year-old husband dead in the family swimming pool next to his beloved dog. Police are investigating the death which appear to have been caused by an old water pump used by the man for gardening that short-circuited and ended up electrifying the water in the pool which he had entered.

A Thai wife who returned from celebrating Songkran to her home on Friday found a shockingly harrowing scene as the evening faded into the night.

Gee this one is badly written.

The "Thai wife" makes it sound like a foreigner husband.

But he was also Thai.

RIP Joker

Tragic.
You must not ignore the risk of water plus electricity!

Such accidents can easily be avoided with safety measures that don't cost a fortune.

that's not a freak accident, that is negligence.

Reminds me of one of the hotels in BKK I used to frequent when traveling here on business over 20 years ago......  They had a TV in the shower!

Preventable... if you have the will to do it.

Yes, it's quite amazing the amount of husband and wife deaths when the other half is 'away'

And idiocy. But just another example of Thai apathy. They knew there was a problem but did nothing, because doing nothing is easy. And then there was a price to be paid.

Another throat cutting would have been too risky....

Is it normal in Thailand to install large dangerous electrical equipment, without a circuit breaker?

They would have tried it but seems dog loved his master more...

What are you suggesting by " ....  hmmm ..."?  Didn't you read the link?

"and idiocy. But just another example of Thai apathy."
Uhh, why "Thai apathy"?  The victim and homeowner was a farang!

Perhaps he simply slipped and fell in.

But that would clash with their version of the story, and make them look as foolish as they are.

Maybe the husband and the dog were insured.....She took them both out and went shopping..

Another thing I avoid here- all swimming pools, along with bike riding, cycles, car driving  crossing the road on a zebra, oh and eating street food.

Indeed, a current leak switch costs about 150 baht, and if you can not put it it yourself, add 250 Baht for a (qualified) service man.

I feel pity for the poor dog who might have jump into the water to save his master.
Thanks to Buddha, you will come back as a rich man.

The pump fell in? Was he pumping water out of the pool for the garden?

Sure, but obviously they can't complain because they have no grounds.

What if the pump was pushed in?
