Popular Post onthedarkside Posted April 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2023 Dominion chief executive John Poulos told a press conference the deal included Fox "admitting to telling lies, causing enormous damage to my company". Justin Nelson, a Dominion attorney, told reporters that "the truth matters". "Lies have consequences," he added. "Over two years ago a torrent of lies swept Dominion and election officials across America into an alternative universe of conspiracy theories, causing grievous harm to Dominion and the country." Popular Post bamnutsak Posted April 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2023 Fox News said it is "pleased" to have settled its dispute with Dominion. "We acknowledge the Court's rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false," the network said in a statement. "This settlement reflects FOX's continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fox-news-dominion-voting-systems-lawsuit-settlement/ I was on record here about a settlement being the obvious solution - all it takes is one or two jurors and Fox didn't want Rupert and the gang on the stand - , not that that was the outcome I was hoping for. Seeing Fox personalities roasted on the stand would have been much better for the country, and for popcorn sales. In the Seth Rich defamation settlement Fox demanded that the settlement be kept secret until after the 2020 election. But Tucker Carlson still refers to the "Seth Rich affair" but without mentioning his name. It will be interesting see which direction Fox chooses now. Towards a more mainstream journalistic path, or full-on crazy-town? So much for seasons five of the Goliath and Succession crossover. 3

If successful this will hit Fox's bottom line after the Dominion settlement for $787.5. All the company has to do is hire the same lawyers used by Dominion and just wait for a juicy settlement offer. Regrettable that this didn't go to trial, but at least Fox is paying through the nose for their non-stop lies. 3 1 5 1

Quite a winfall for Smartmatic if they get close to the Dominion settlement amount considering their annual revenue is about $200 million. Dominion is laughing all the way to the bank and shareholders will benefit from this windfall. Their annual revenue is about $17.4 million. Will hit Fox hard deservingly. https://www.zippia.com/dominion-voting-systems-careers-1569241/revenue/ 3 2 1
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted April 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2023 Quote Dominion chief executive John Poulos told a press conference the deal included Fox "admitting to telling lies, causing enormous damage to my company". Be very interested to see/hear just what exact kind of "admitting to telling lies" admissions Fox will have to publicly make via the terms of the settlement. And even more so, whether this resolution and the likely coming resolution of the Smartmatic litigation will have any meaningful curative effect on the volumes of misinformation rubbish regularly purveyed by the Fox opinion non-news hosts such as Carlson, Hannity, and the rest. 1 1 5

The only way Fox News will change their ways is if somehow, telling the truth becomes more profitable. What's the chance of that happening? Their idiot audience wants to be lied to. Needs to be lied to. So Fox will continue to deliver. 6 1 1 2 1

But $787 mil isn't small change, at least not to Dominion. As strong as their case was, they knew that a defamation case is risky, not to mention years of litigation and appeals, even if they had won. I can see why they took the money. Luckily, there are a few more cases ongoing. So the Fox lies will be in the news for awhile. 2 2

So many news media to chose from including the fake news media. I think you'd have to search far and wide to find such an egregious case of a major U.S. "news" source putting forward a sustained many months long campaign of endlessly repeated blatant disinformation / false information on such an important, pivotal national issue that, according to its depositions, even Fox management and the falsity spouting hosts knew was false. Good luck with that! In dollar terms, the media are describing the nearly $800 million settlement here as the largest defamation settlement in U.S. history. There's a reason for that, and it's based on the extremity of Fox's conduct here.. 3 2 1 4 2

Popular Post mrfill Posted April 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2023 It's an odd world when a party that makes itself an accessory to treason and misleads millions of people by continuously lying, gets a fine and can then continue spewing its filth, whereas a party (Wikileaks/Assange) that distributes the truth (albeit some very inconvenient truths) gets imprisoned without trial for years with a possibility of being murdered by the state. 4

Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted April 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2023 Perhaps Fox's settlement here was a recognition of how the court case against them was likely to fare, considering one of the recent comments by the judge in the case, as follows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5byuXpK7MNk I guess you know you're going down the drain when the judge handling the case feels the need to emphasize the extent of Fox's lies with the all-caps reference "CRYSTAL clear"! ???? 1 2
