Pattaya – Two German pedestrians were seriously injured after they were hit by a sedan in Pattaya while walking home from a bar.

The Pattaya City Police were notified of the incident at 2:00 A.M. on Saturday (May 6th) on Pattaya Second Road in Naklua. They and the Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the sedan parked on the road with a broken front windshield.

The sedan driver, Mr. Pakasit Noodang, 42, was waiting for law enforcement at the scene and was described by rescue workers and police as cooperative.

On the road rescue staff found MR. JAKOB BAULER, 68, and MR. KLAUS WERNER, 58, both German nationals. MR. WERNER had sustained severe injuries while Mr. Bauler had more minor injuries. They were both taken to a nearby hospital.

Crossing the road is very serious business in Thailand. No regard is given to pedestrians. One must do so without extreme care. Especially if one has been drinking.

How about two guys stumbling across the road without checking traffic, after a beer or maybe several, thinking that everywhere in the world traffic stops whenever someone walks up to a pedestrian cros

when I saw the title my mind just went into the Hit and Run type of accident, glad it's not the case as the driver stayed and he's cooperative

I wonder what the driver's excuse will be as to why he could not react in time to avoid the collision.

Can't tell from the photos. Were they in a crosswalk?

They did not say what the blood alcohol was in the driver but driving at 2 AM TIT

as he is cooperative, I doubt he was drunk.

this is to a large extent irrelevant when considering the driver's fault, it's the driver's responsibility to avoid collisions, especially with pedestrians and especially when driving within a city.

One should always walk facing traffic.

Second road is a one way, at least what's left of it.

Must be at least a few meters of sidewalk.

By walking facing traffic  uou at least get to see the idiot who's going to hit you.

the article says Naklua. that road isn't one way, you can see the double yellow line in the photo.

it happened just at the beginning of the road, near the dolphin roundabout.

How about two guys stumbling across the road without checking traffic, after a beer or maybe several, thinking that everywhere in the world traffic stops whenever someone walks up to a pedestrian crossing? Just speculating, you know, as we all do without facts...

Nor did they mention what the blood alcohol was in the pedestrians, but carefully crossing the road at 2 AM after drinking in a bar does not always work in Thailand.

Perhaps the Germans were tourists and expected the traffic rules to be the same as in Germany,

This is only my thoughts as I wasn't there.

well, tourists especially CN love to wander in the middle of the road.....  not sorry at all for them...  its a road not a walkway!

The textual description is a masterpiece of confusion.

It happened on Naklua rd opposite Sunshine Garden resort quite a bit away from the circle. And Naklua rd is not an easy task to cross. Also at daytime I don't feel too good when doing a right turn there with the scooter.

No idea why someone would confuse readers with "Pattaya 2nd rd", "left turn onto 2nd rd.". What as BS.

Not for nothing but I'm sure that 2 German tourists where completely sober and didn't walk out in front of this driver, are we to believe that

I have seen it several times here in Chiang Mai were the pedestrian just start walking across the road (not in a cross walk) with on coming traffic. It is kind of like I am really dumb but they will stop for me. At some point in time people need to take responsibility for there own safety and not assume so much. Pedestrians need to use caution any where they are,

He said he didn't see them when he turned into the side road.

If only someone could explain what this "turn" "side road" hitting with 60 km/h could mean.

It happened on a straight wide road.

A lot of onlookers in the link photo... seems the place is alive and well at 2am,

looking at the front row the girls could make  a decent back row in a rugby game...

The driver stayed because he wanted to file a police complaint against the Germans for damaging his windshield!

aah, that explains why the car is parked in the middle of the large road, heading towards the roundabout. not.

From the link:

A witness, a motorbike taxi driver named Mr. Wirat Yimyam, 45, told the Pattaya News team that the sedan was driving at about 40-60 kilometers per hour before turning left onto Pattaya Second Road and hitting both pedestrians

From the article:

"Both pedestrians had left a beer bar nearby before crossing the road and being hit by the sedan."

At 2am, I'd suspect the latter.

You really do need to be extra careful crossing roads in Thailand, day or night, but especially at night after a few beers.

yes, but that doesn't make much sense.

there is a small street just before where the accident happened, but driving 40-60 Kph in there is reckless.

the other possibility is Naklua soi 33, but that would be too far away from the accident to be relevant.

2pm after late night drinking in bar

Even if the Germans are amongst those equipped with travel insurance (and having been parcelled off to the nearest high cost hospital) they need to look to the gods of good luck that their imbibing doesn't negate their insurance, and possibly their claim against the drivers insurance (which may of course in any event baulk at the costs of the hospital they've landed at).
