Popular Post swissie
The unexpected demise of Ubon Joe has shown, how fast the final curtain can fall. All it takes is a "short illness". Still, instead of enjoying every day, I am mired in "planning the future", hoping to circumnavigate negative personal events. It must be in my European genes. Why can't I just dance around a fire at night, chanting meaningful chants. Like so many "less developped" folks do. Not giving a rats ass what tomorrow will bring. Granted, most folks dancing around a fire or going to church have the firm believe that a better "after-live" is the reward for enduring earthly life. So, death is not really a problem for them. As an atheist, I dont have it so good. Being born and having to die after a very short time, to me, is an evolutionary joke. But affecting all living things. My dog dosn't know about this mechanism, but (unfortunately) I do. Still trying to grasp Ubon Joe's demise. He contributed to this forum in a meaningful way, as very much opposed to the rest of us. 18 3 1 3 16
still kicking
Yes, I read the sad news as well, but he wasn't a youngster anymore compare that with Jock Zonfrillo master chef judge and brilliant cook who was just 46 when he passed away last week 1

I don't believe in any god. When I am dead then I am dead. So what? It won't hurt. Until now I lived more than 20,000 days and nights. I enjoyed a lot of that time. Maybe I will live 10,000 more. Or maybe only a few. Nobody knows. There is no point of denying reality: We all will die. Carpe diem! 7 1
Popular Post Tropicalevo
I was shocked to read about Ubon Joe passing on. RIP Joe. He has been a part of many threads that I have read. It does not need an illness for someone to pass on in this world. My wife was only 55, very fit and full of energy. One night, we both went to sleep. She never woke up. 2 24 2 2

Popular Post NanLaew
Being an atheist doesn't mean one is prevented from doing a "dance around a fire." You can do it at any time that suits especially during the current burning season here. 1 1

Popular Post 1happykamper
Spot on OP. Death can be just a "short illness" away. I'm 72 years old and very healthy...2 weeks ago I slipped on wet steps at my home. BOOM. Everything changed...badly broken tibia and fibia and my life is confined to two rooms at home. Oops All it takes is one slip. One infection and so forth. It's a jungle out there! Enjoy life! Of course, you are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but it is unwise for you to state your opinion as fact. Consider this....of all the knowledge in the world, let's modestly say that you are aware of .00000000000001% of it. Have you considered that the true knowledge of God is hidden somewhere in the balance of that, and you just haven't discovered it as yet? Keep searching my friend! Take it from a former "rich gone broke" alcoholic and drug addict, God the Father, Holy Spirit and Jesus are all real and can change your life dramatically when they come into your life. All you have to do is receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, and you will never have to worry about losing your life. You will find eternal life! 3 4

No WAY am I getting dragged into a stupid philosophical discussion of absolutely no value or legitimate conclusion on this forum OR THIS TOPIC. Popular Post Toolong
I too am 'mired in planning the future', swissie. I can empathize with your sentiments and do appreciate someone reminding me of what gets so easly forgotten in that boggy mire we create. Dance around the fire at night, swissie. Chant your head off. Let the neighbours - anyone - think what they will. Think it was that bushy-mustached German thinker (Nietzsche?) who said something like: 'And those seen dancing were thought insane by those who could not hear the music.' Reckon the planning can stay, but make the dancing part of it too, eh? ???????????? 3 1

Popular Post spambot
swissie - You have a talent for words and you paint a subtext many of us all feel after the passing of Ubonjoe, an outpouring from the soul and I recognise that feeling. I am saddened by the passing of a man I never met, Ubinjoe and I find it difficult to articulate what I feel. All I know is that he changed my life in so many posts while also helping thousands of others while he selflessly did so. 2
