SOME UK-UTUBER DUDE, based in Thailand, Just told me to move to PORTUGAL. Good Idea?

My Dearest Friends,

There are only a very few UTUBERS based in Thailand which I have respect for, and THIS UTUBER is one.

Apparently, and according to this UTUBER, Portugal is FAR better than Thailand in too many ways to be denied.

And so, it has gotten me thinking.

And, thinking seriously.

I could move to Portugal if I wanted to. I COULD. I could leave here, and live out my days in Portuga.

I have spent most of my life in Asia.  And, I REALLY always enjoyed my time in Macau, during the early days.

So, what do you think?

Now that the CCP has completely destroyed Macao, or Macau, then why not go to Portugal to live out the rest of my days, however many might still be allotted to me by the Powers that be?

Listening to this UTUBER, Portugal has just TOO MUCH to offer, it seems, compared to the Thailand of Today.

I am getting tired of the VISA Rigamarole, not to mention the increasing numbers of tourists, and low-flying aircraft buzzing me, overhead. And, the ROOSTERS, let’s just say that you cannot escape these beastly beasts in Thailand, wherever you go.

I do not want to write too much, initially, because, I hope that I might add further comments below, as needed.

Just in case you might think this is some sort of idle-chatter post…IT IS NOT.

Although I have never been to Portugal, myself, I HAVE been to Luxembourg, and I assume the two places are not far apart in terms of culture.

I KNOW!....right?

Originally, I had thought that I might go to Scotland. But, Scotland might be too expensive and too cold.

After reading this recent UTUBER upload, and I will NOT post the link, I have changed my mind.

Portugal might be EVEN BETTER than Thailand…Maybe.

Have you ever seen the movie dealing with the theme of a grape-vineyard owner who loses his vineyard?  THAT was a great film!

And, here is a lesser film….

Anyway…I think I am DUE FOR A CHANGE.  I have spent almost my entire life in Asia. And, what do I have to show for it???

Maybe it is time to head to Portugal!

Also, my DEEPEST Thanks to the great UTUBER who, very recently, suggested 5 better places to retire.

Thank you, Sir!

You know who you are.

You are a VERY nice guy who deserves a VERY happy life.

Regards,

Gamma

Note1:  This UTUBER is much to my taste, possessing a bit of dry wit, but not over the top.

Note2:  This UTUBER is also a super nice guy, who graduated from a decent school and loves to swim in Thai swimming pools, after having swum in pools at school in the UK.

Note3: This UTUBER does not mind sharing artifacts concerning intimate details of his life in Thailand, even though, as we all know, lurkers and viewers can be harsh in their judgements of UTUBE content producers.

In fact, my hat’s off to this very nice guy who is, probably about now, in the UK.

What more can I say?

Should I gush further?

Some UTUBERS from Thailand have things meaningful to say which affect me, deeply, like Marylin Monroe, and..like Sergei Rachmaninoff.

I like Port.

Just remember to pass it the right way "Port goes to Port".

I got into trouble as a guest in the wardroom of HMS Daedalus for sending it the wrong way.

The penalty was that all the officers bought me a drink, which I had to consume at that session! :whistling:

I spent time in Portugal two years ago as country opened up after covid. I was amazed at how beautiful the country is. It's historic, with great food and much cheaper than countries in 'northern' Europe...your euro goes further there! The weather is great too!

Go and have a look then make up your mind...????

Just go visit instead of yapping about it.????

I'd move there... but probably a bit outside the tourist haunts like the Algarve. Great climate (number one), tasty food, cheap wine & port + nice people. Cheap property away from the main centres too.

would advise you to visit and see but avoid July and August as too many people, best from April to June and later in September, enjoy the grilled sardines and a (1) glass of red wine 555

My Aunty took the plunge and loves it. Left her Sydney house and followed her artistic dreams through China and has lived for 10 years in Lisbon as a professional artist. Lifestyle seems relaxed and fun. Culture to burn of course. You can live your dream rather than waxing lyrical to burnt out types on this forum. Nice to have mainly warm weather with some cooler or cold thrown in. You get sick of anything and I imagine you’d be sick of Thailand truth be told so cant go wrong I think.

Gamma,

1 - Go!

2 - Start threads on here about Portugal to let us know what it's like

3 - But DO NOT let that stop you from ALSO starting random threads about the first thing that pops into your head totally unrelated to Portugal or Thailand.

I do hope you are being sarcastic!

Is there a Thai community in Portugal?

I'm not picky.

Yes, but please warn them that you're on the way as they're picky.

Like Ivory Soap purity.

Portugal surely is one of the best places for expats. Nice people, decent prices, rich culture, beautiful nature, good food, a short flight to everywhere in Europe. And very easy to get a permission to stay - at least, if you are an EU citizen.

Together with Southern France and the Toskana my favorite place to go, if I leave Thailand.

The temperature is more important the older you become. Thailand is very warm/hot all year around. Lisbon officially goes no lower than 15 C in Winter, although it does feel colder. In the North you get snow. In the Algarve I experienced 25 C on Christmas Day. Too many tourists but you only have to venture a few miles inland and things become much more traditional. At Nazare one Christmas gales were so strong that everyone was advised not to venture out of doors. Awnings were torn off shops and road signs bent over by the wind. Portuguese cafes are great, they use Italian coffee machines producing superb selections. Draught lagers are excellent too, everything is available from 6am until midnight or until the last customer has gone home.

Do you want that I should tell you who is this COOLEST dude UTUBER with his BEAUTIFUL house which he built himself in Thailand?

He drives an old truck wherever he roams.

His UK home is by the sea.

Who is he?

A very unpretentious soul is he.

Try as one might, you just can't find nothing wrong with him.

He calls himself, James, but probably not his real name.

Seems that he came to Thailand and fell in love, 20 years ago...

And now, he is wishing he were in Portugal.

Maybe it's not so easy to come to Asia, live here for 45 years, and then NEVER return to the West.

45 Fing years in Asia, Man!

Try, if you will, to wrap your pea brains around that number!

It's only logical that most of you haven't a clue what I'm gabbing about.

But, I never hold this against you.

Do I?
