I was referring to the DAMAGE done. They ended slavery but the cost in human life was astronomical.

So preserving the UNION was chopped liver?

A statement which makes no sense. Food was not being discussed. Loss of life was the result of the Civil War. Those advocating it in “defense” of Donald Trump, ought to be in prison.

Strange reply.

Anyway there is freedom of speech in the US.

So it's OK for people to discuss anything.

But I am in favor of the authorities closely watching people or groups favoring civil war in order to arrest people as soon as chatter morphs into planning actions.

Talking about well known names, there's a video of Kari Lake giving this beauty going round twitter:

“If you want to get to President Trump, you’re going to have to go through me and you’re going to have to go through 75 million Americans just like me,” said Lake, a staunch Trump ally who lost her 2022 bid for governor.
Most of those Trump voters, she pointedly added, are “card-carrying members” of the National Rifle Association.
“That’s not a threat. That’s a public service announcement,” she said. “We will not let you lay a finger on President Trump. Frankly, now is the time to cling to our guns and our religion.”

What a very sad woman.

Also IMHO, she is very wrong about 75 million other American people like her.

There will always be some, but 75 million?

No way.

It ended great, the racists got beaten.

Well in fairness it wasn't that clean an ending.

The south just compensated their defeat with Jim Crow laws and still glorifying the Rebel cause.

Black people might have been paid after the war, but peanuts, and their civil rights including voting rights were severely repressed.

Yes many moved north but discovered there's plenty of racism up there too!

Also it's still being debated if Sherman's brutal murderous march from Atlanta to the sea after the Union won was justified in any way.

Tues is the day people

I would think that if the DOJ, or whomever is in charge here, will quietly arrange a new date time and venue as it is obvious that many Trump supporters will take up arms and be a danger to themselves and the public order?

Do any of Trumps supporters realize he was the one who started the weaponization of DOJ.

Presidents help set the tone for America; Trump set a tone of bullying and phony machismo that lingers even after his ouster, as we see public health officials threatened, bottles thrown at NBA players and decency disappearing from campaigns – and even the House floor.

Because Swalwell says so? OMG.

Only in America can people in government come out with statements like be prepared for civil war, its ok to advocate killing. What kind of a country is that?  In the UK anyone even suggesting that would be arrested and put before a court for incitement and if they were a Politician there career would be over.

Exactly. Such statements are no more “free speech” than threatening to kill a sitting President. No less than TWO law enforcement officers were suspended in the southern United States for that exact threat once Joe Biden was elected.  “Free speech” is like anything else in law, it has its limits.

If Trump is the nominee, that should give Biden a guaranteed win. I fear the presence of DeSantis in the mix. He is arguably worse than Trump because he is smarter.

Trump should not even be Nominated he should be in a prison cell for inciting a civil war, lying to the American population, and  Treason. Oh and throw in potentially the Security of all Americans by stealing and storing sensitive top Secret documents in his home.

As we often see on this forum, many of Trump’s most vociferous supporters aren’t Americans and very likely don’t own any guns.

Brand ‘Validate Impotent Grievance’ has a global reach.

Most people don't care and have better things to do. The people who hate Trump seem to spend years worrying about him.

So with Desantis being smarter and younger than Trump and Biden he should be President. Let's hope so.
