Purse-snatching pinch: Chinese thief bagged for swiping 2.1 million baht Louis Vuitton at Bangkok airport

Thai police yesterday arrested a Chinese man after he stole an exclusive Louis Vuitton bag worth 2.1 million baht from a fellow Chinese woman at the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok.

 

The Chinese woman, Linlu Jiang, filed a complaint at Don Mueng Police Station on June 18 that she left her pink Louis Vuitton handbag at a visa-on-arrival counter at the Don Mueang Airport. However, when she returned to retrieve it, it had vanished.

 

Channel 7 reported that the Chinese victim is a former beauty pageant contestant in China. She travelled from the Maldives to explore Thailand. The bag in question is a limited edition model and only five of them exist in the world.

Police officers reviewed CCTV footage at the counter and nearby areas until they identified the thief. In the footage, a Chinese man, 38 year old Xiaoyi Liao, is seen staring at the pink luxury bag. He then placed his backpack on the counter to hide the victim’s bag from view before holding both bags and heading straight to the bathroom.

A 2.1 million baht Louis Vuitton bag is not made to travel with, it's made to keep it in the safe at home giving you bragging rights and buying a knock off one to walk around with, to forget such valuable bag behind is a crime.

Chinese on Chinese crime becoming a problem in Thailand. Wonder what the chances of blackmail schemes are at those Chinese only clubs and bars and other gray businesses. At least the purse snatcher was committing his crime in the open.

To steal a bright pink bag in an airport. Generally one of the most secure locations in any given country.

You literally just need to stop and look around and you can normally see cameras everywhere throughout.

He comes from China. He should be well aware of comeras and surveillance.

If one owns a bag of that value, it is not something to brag about. It is an obscenity. The ownership of something like that is representative of a extreme level of self absorbtion, a total lack of perspective on life, and an intense and pathological desire to impress others. Likely due to major self esteem issues. 

 

If it had been stolen, it is likely she would not have received much sympathy. And one has to wonder, when faced with such riches, what percentage of that wealth she is using to make the world a better place, and ease the suffering of others. Otherwise, she is just an embarrassment to the human race.

The wording limited edition and the number made is key here. Some Louise Vuitton are well over £150,000 "crazy". They have a very good resale value and some of the rare bags go up in value. My wife had to wait 18 years for her first Louise Vuitton (she now has 2). It was easier to buy knowing it had a resale value...lol

But, because she's Chinese and a woman, somehow it's obscene to have paid this amount, if she in fact did. However, it's crazy to be actually carrying this item around with you. And people saying to put it in a safe...i applaud her that she actually enjoys the things she likes.

 

People have different hobbies and interests, $50k watch is crazy too but horology and watch hobby is very common. How is that different from liking handbags, cars or any other materialistic stuff.

Not easy to sell in this part of the world, but I agree, she should not be traveling with it.

Awesome Virtue signal.....   How much of your wealth do you give away to those who need it ?

 

We should all live in the same type of housing...  get paid the same for our varied contributions to society (or lack there of for some of us)... eat the same etc...  perhaps we should have the same transport options...  your rhetoric would suggest that those in riding around in BMW's and Mercedes are 'obscene' when they could get from A-B on a 10 baht Bus. 

Isn't it horrific that some fly First and Business Class when others can't even afford to travel ????

It's common. I recently received a Facebook Memory photo that I took in London's Burlington Arcade, showing a shop selling 600 pound shoes and 14,000 pound Rolexes. They were the discounted sale prices too! No-one actually needs 600 pound shoes or 14,000 pound watches, do they. Probably popular with certain politicians though.
