Cream of Wheat - Where to buy?

Featured Replies

I've had a hankering for some Cream of Wheat lately.  I usually check to see if any is in stock when I go to retail stores in Chiang Mai, but haven't seen any lately (last visit at Rimping Nim Plaza was a zero as well).  This is something I'd usually get at Kasem or Rimping, but can't say I've seen it stocked lately.

Has anyone seen Cream of Wheat for sale in Chiang Mai in the last month?

Bought some today st Villa here in HH, it was 435Thb. I know there is not a Villa up your way, but just checked on Lazada and they have it. You can always order it for delivery @connda

Cheaper than what i paid. You can buy the individual packets or the cook in the pot style.

I looked on Lazada but the cheapest (473 THB) only had one left in stock.
Tried Shopee and found it for 479 THB including shipping for the 794 gram box and they had a lot in stock.  Pricey though.  At current exchange rates that's about $13.60 for a box.  Speaking of currents, I'll have to add in the cost of the raisins too (which I already have).  This is just one of those "I just wanna have some" moments.  A 29oz box is about $6.00 in the US.   Cooked with raisins and drizzled with butter and cream.
Yum.   I'll savor every morsel.  Priceless!

Why not buy rolled wheat flakes (next to porridge in Lotus's @ Bht 60) and make it same as porridge in the microwave.

Doesn't sound like it would be even close to the experience of Cream of Wheat.

I love Cream of Wheat too but the price for it in Thailand is so ridiculously high that I just won't go there. On the other hand I have paid the price for Grape Nuts which I don't think is priced quite as absurdly as Cream of Wheat but still bad.

I've eaten lots of different grains and at no time has rolled wheat ever tasted like "Cream of Wheat."
Like I said, this is one of those, "Geez whiz, I really feel like having a bowl of good old fashioned Cream Of Wheat.  I'm just indulging myself.  But I appreciate the suggestion.

Cream of Wheat vs. Oatmeal, Which One Is Better? | New Health Advisor

Why is eating a bowl of breakfast cereal 'an experience'. It's a bl00dy meal.

You've missed the entire point.  You could mix vegetable powder in soy milk and ground earthworms, and obtain an nutritious meal which is also an "experience."  But it's not an experience I particularly want.

Cream of Wheat once or twice a year.  Yep - it is an 'experience' to be enjoyed.  Well, at least for those of us who have functioning taste buds and an appreciation of foods we grew up eating.

"It's a bloody meal."
Nope - not bloody at all.  Very vegan and sustainable in fact.

Would it not be classed as Ultra Processed Food these days. What additives are in it?

If I'm indulging my taste buds?  I don't care "what additives are in it."  <laughs>

Wow - this has gone way off topic.

I'd still like to know of anyplace in Chiang Mai that is selling Cream Of Wheat.  If anyone comes across some, let me know.  Shopee worked this time around.  But I'd still like to know if any retail outlets are selling it in CM.  Thanks!

As the OP poster has indicated, if one knows of a place selling the topic of the OP in Chiang Mai please assist.

I was surprised to see, apparently there's no Villa Markets anywhere in the north including Chiang Mai...as best as I can find.

If he doesnt find a better option, the OP also could contact the Villa Market main branch at Sukhumvit Soi 33 in BKK, and I believe they'll accept online orders that they'll ship anywhere in Thailand for non-perishable items.  Might be another 125b or so for delivery based on my mockup of a single package.

I think you to any India market and ask for "rava". Maybe a finer grind is available

I would rather eat this for breakfast than a bowl of bland paste

Think they call it comfort food... But OP I understand where your coming from......Nilla wafers, Cream of Wheat, Saltines, Ginger Ale and Grits hard to find... Canadian Whiskey as well.  But was my choice to retire here and they have a lot more now than they did 50 yrs ago...

If you know someone coming to Thailand you could have them bring you some.

Not for a while, but I bought at Rimping Nawarat.

The one out by the Iron Bridge?  I'll check it out the next time in CM.

hominy...same same but different as thais would say.....as for the OP learn to love JOK...rice porridge and much cheaper.....

Love it too I will have same same "congee" in Singapore Friday unless Nasi Lemak is on the breakfast buffet buffet also

Yes, the Rimping by the Iron Bridge (Khualek).

(Sadly, I find this branch of Rimping has gone downhill lately.)

I understand the poster's hankering...   A few months ago, I knew I was having some dental surgery done soon, so I bought a box of Cream of Wheat at Villa Market in Pattaya.  Had to eat soft foods for a few weeks....

In the past, I had declined to buy it due to the nearly 500 Baht price tag.  However, it turns out that the box makes 15 or 16 very big servings (2 cups water; 6 tablespoons Cream of Wheat).  At just over 30Baht per serving, the price is really not a concern.  I will continue to buy it.

Toss some vanilla extract (fake or real) in the water, add some protein powder after cooking, and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar.

To the OP, I say, GO FOR IT and order from Villa Bangkok. "You'll  be glad you did!"

Saw these in Rimping Nawarat yesterday:

No Uncle Ben (or Uncle Tom on the front).  Rimping doesn't want to be deemed 'racist, sexist, elitist, classist etc...- 'it's not cricket, old chap!'image.thumb.jpeg.3aa21fcfa57ced4effa5fc9a4027d86f.jpeg
