Latest Pheu Thai-Led Coalition To Do Without Move Forward

THE LATEST PARADIGM of a Pheu Thai-led coalition government will likely do without the Move Forward, Palang Pracharath and Ruam Thai Sang Chart, said partisan sources today (Aug.1).

 

Whilst the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob will almost certainly jump onto the bandwagon to strengthen the Pheu Thai-led coalition, the Move Forward will no longer be part of it and the Palang Pracharath led by Prawit “Uncle Pom” Wongsuwan and Ruam Thai Sang Chart under de facto party boss/caretaker prime minister Prayut “Uncle Tu” Chan-o-cha will be deliberately left out, according to the partisan sources who only spoke on condition of anonymity.

 

Whilst “Uncle Tu” has earlier offered to call it quits from politics after nine years in power following the 2014 coup which he staged as army chief and already resigned as member of the brand-new military party, “Uncle Pom” who is apparently still yearning to take the helm of government will not only fail to rise to power but see his own camp missed out from the latest Pheu Thai-led coalition, according to the partisan sources.

 

Whilst the Move Forward rank and file have unfalteringly insisted that they not ever join any coalition which might possibly consist of either “uncle’s camp”, namely the Palang Pracharath or Ruam Thai Sang Chart, Newin’s men have resolutely demanded that the Pheu Thai-led coalition do without the Move Forward.

First wait till tomorrow when the CC will speak. A disgrace for Thailand and democracy to give a stage to Pheu Thai all the time. It seems they are the best, but the people wanted changes with Move Forward. Pheu Thai does treason, getting Thaksin back in the country and no support for amendment of section 112.. We have seen several times already that a Government with PT will end in a coup because of the greed.... Pita first and when that is decide he can or can't go further.. step by step, but they are betrayed already by Pheu Thai

So having been excluded from the coalition and government, its members now expect MF to vote for Settha as PM as an altruistic gesture.

Plus in the election campaign Settha said he was for reform of Article 112.

Lots of other democratic Euro governments have been formed without the biggest vote winning party as boss.

Well I guess that's some sort of relief.. the Two P's out in the cold.

Shame though the MFP couldn't make it work-out.

Yes, in the sense that the party which won the General Election has been forced out, and that a coalition which reflects the priorities of the established politicians and their party machines rather than reflecting the views of the electorate appears to be being established.

 

Move Forward may be better off keeping away, and forming an active and vocal opposition.

Oh come now, what did you expect, a 'love in' with the people? PT is being pragmatic, time to get back on the gravy train. MFP has learnt a valuable lesson, keep radical views under cover until you have the power to implement them. MFP is a party for the young to 40 year old's, Thailand is starting to get top heavy with the older more traditionalists section of the population, it's a waiting game, wait for natures cull and you too will have your gravy. Human nature being what it is I don't expect the idealism to last once the robes of power drape the shoulders of 'the peoples choice'. Politicians aren't noticed for their honesty, ethics gets in the way of business.

I agree the people won't forget Pheu Thai's treachery, but who knows what laws will be enacted to try and prevent MF winning a second time?

Hopefully they will get such a landslide result next time that no one can stop them from governing.

This formula looks difficult to implement 

The coalition have 262 MPs but need 375 votes from both Houses combined so:

1. MF must vote for Settha even though they are excluded from the government!

2. If MF refuse, Chettha must find at least 113 senators to vote for him. But they were all selected by Prayuth and Pravit whose parties are both excluded from this coalition!

Can't see how this formula will work unless MF commit an act of supreme benevolence and why should they?

Quite right in your opinion. Lot of risks securing the senators votes when the 2 military parties not in the government. No benefits of any form for them. However I think MFP will be the tie breaker even if they are excluded. Really a better than nothing deal as long as they keep the junta parties out of the government. PTP as lead government will drive their policies to rewrite the charter to make sure that only elected MPs can vote for a prime minister which is also MFP's policies. Besides policies on decentralization, full transparency on budget, governor election and drug control are similiar for both parties. 

 

Still I don't think this is the pathway that the 8 coalition parties are likely to proceed. Mostly likely that the current 8 parties coalition bring in BJT and that will gurantee the votes for PM even if all the senators vote against. MFP has given the lead role to form the government to PTP and with Newin and Thaksin influencing the outcome, most likely scenario of a 8 + 1 coalition.

PT are about to sell there souls to the devil  the voters will never forget this if it happens . I congratulate MFP for sticking to there principles and refusing to be blackmailed. I expect to see 1,000s of orange shirts on the streets of Bangkok shortly not forgetting a lot of Bangkok resident voted for MFP . As for Mr T returning next week that is never going to happen unless a deal has been done to ensure the junta remain in power . The next couple of weeks could be dreadful for those who long for democracy watching it stolen from under there eyes I sincerely hope I am wrong but having lived in Thailand for 18 years and invested a lot of my money I cannot foresee any change for the future !

    The MF party should publicly announce, as loudly as possible, that they will be voting for Settha as PM, since he has stated that he, too, is in favor of reforming Article 112.  Throw the ball into the Senator's court and force them, along with the junta House members, to make the painful choice to be seen as voting in agreement with the MF party, or to be seen as voting, once again, against both the will of the voters and the forming of a government.

They excluded the dinosaur generals 

they supported and gave MFP the chance to form the government. 
likely MFP gave their tacit approval too as when Thanathorn met Thaksin. 
I would say this is a win win situation for most

In that case Eric, Bhumjaithai will have to swallow their words and accept MF. Actually, it's all nonsense about not accepting MF because of 112, MF don't have enough votes on their own to push it through Parliament anyway!

If PT and Bhumjaithai reject MF but still need their votes for Settha to be PM, then that's nonsense too

Another thing, Thaksin. I just can't see him coming back if both Pravit and Prayuth are excluded from the government. I just can't see it!
