Police in Pattaya have instructed motorbike operators to keep a “strict eye” on renters from the Middle East, with many accused of creating disturbances through road racing in the area.

According to a Nation Thailand report, police say local residents have repeatedly filed complaints over disturbances caused by Middle Eastern men on rented motorbikes.

The complaints have singled out young men from Kuwait in particular, who are accused of racing motorbikes on Pattaya’s roads, while revving their engines loudly in the early hours of the morning, disturbing locals who are trying to sleep.

This kind of racial profiling would be illegal in the West.

Thankfully we are not in the West. ???? ????

Quite so. If they didn't cause any trouble, they wouldn't be profiled?

Damned foreigners.

......????????????

Here on the islands, almost all rental companies keep a passport as a deposit.

Do the rental people do the same in Pattaya?

WTH does "a strict eye" mean? They rent the bikes out and probably don't see the renters for days or weeks until they return the bike, right?

Do wish the rental firms told police "You keep a 'strict eye' on them. They're you're responsibility after they leave our lot."

Lazy police. Rental places interact with customers at the point of pick up and drop off where pretty much makes everyone look the same. It’s their behavior that is problematic which is police’s responsibility.

They also never check driving licences, probably because it would be bad for hospital profits.

The brillant detectives of Pattata,  should rather be monitoring the overweight drunk brits with a tendency of  pre-Parkinson considering their arm waiving tics !!

Weren’t they already told that those renting must have a license ???

…, I know, I know…. This is Thailand… the obvious solution is impossible when the police are so lazy to do the obvious.

Indeed… this is simply deflection from the Police failing to do their jobs…

… that also means dining rental shops for renting out motorcycles to those without licenses.

Not illegal in the west where I live, Bikies are not allowed to wear jackets with their club's name on it but then again, they are criminals.
